Thinking of using them for Mohawk carpet we want to have installed in livingroom and stairs. Any experience with them?

Yes! Shop around - they are way too expensive. I chose Lowe's to install my Shaw's which is as good as Mohawk and they did a great job!

How was the sales and wait time experience with Lowes? I have had issues with their surly special order people (took my business elsewhere), and am wary of using them to install after hearing many complaints about their appliance installation. Thanks.

They were really great. However all Lowe's are different. Our Lowe's has really nice, friendly, helpful people which I guess is rare. Our Home Depot - well that's another story!

Wow, I had no idea they were a national chain. The TV commercials I have seen look like the low budget stuff you see from small local stores.

I recently replaced my carpet with hardwood and new carpet. I got a quote form Empire, and while they were MUCH higher than other local quotes I got, and the material they carry was not the best choice IMO.

I don't know what you are looking at for wait time. I know Empire says they will deliver and install the next day which is probably what you are paying the premium for. Our Lowe's carpet was installed 5 days after we ordered it but it was a popular shade and type. I don't know how long special orders would take. I will say that I called them and asked questions several times before I finally ordered and they were really nice and patient - I know they thought I was one crazy lady!

Empire has been around forever. I can remember seeing their commercials when my aunt first got TV in the early 80's. I am amazed the guy who does them is still around!

Well he is an he isn't. If you notice they don't show him anymore, just those cartoons of him. That's his voice. He an old surly man. He's an actor from Chicago and still lives here. I was at a Jackie Mason show (small venue, Park West) a few years ago, and the Empire man was at the show (watching, not participating) and as I can imagine what a pain it would be to have everyone shouting "hey, there's the Empire Man", I think it would be something you have to live with....well this guy was telling everyone to SHUT UP. (It wasn't during the show, so no one was being bothered by it), but this Empire Man was just yelling at everyone who came up to him.

Anyhoo, we've had Empire in Chicago FOR EVER....I've used them 2 time, but only because DB's buddy is a saleman for them and I get 50% off. The quality is great and you can't beat the one day service.

I swear I just saw him on TV the past few months. Maybe I was listening, not watching. Who knows with me :D I just know at the time I was amazed he was still around selling carpet.

It's funny seeing a commercial for Chicago and that area in Alaska back in the early 80's LOL. WGN? I think was the channel growing up. I remember watching the news and seeing the outside world :rotfl:

You're right, WGN - the Superstation. You may have seen it, sometimes they sneak a rerun commerical in with a voiceover of the new special. It sound like I watch way tooo much TV or have a wierd interest in the Empire Man (I don't have similies, but I'm ROTFL)

Seems like the commercial looked like a commercial from the 80's but again I wasn't paying close attention :rotfl:

I loved the Superstation growing up. :happytv: Of course back then TV was pretty limited.

Man the things that stick with us over the years. :rotfl2:

my aunt got carpets from them and they were very pricy and they don't do it next day like they say - expect 3-5 days after ordering before they come to install...so that isn't the exuse for the priciing.

My neighbor ordered her carpet from there and had nothing but problems (we are with the Chicago location). They would make appts to come and install "next day" and they never showed up. Took her 4 times to finally get them to come and by that time it was almost a month since she had ordered.

Well then I must have been lucky. I had them do out family room in Oct. The saleman was good, no pressure. I wanted something less expensive because of the dogs. About what I expected to spend. They came the next morning. I had the room ready, they moved the big stuff, cut up and rolled the old stuff so small that our regular trash guys took it saving me money. They were in and out in less than two hours, neat clean and did a great job!

We are in the Chicago area too and I didn't find there prices all that high.

I used them twice now and had no problems at all. I paid what I thought it would cost and both times they came next day.

My sister also used them with no problems.

As long as you have an idea of what it should cost then you'll know if they are giving you a good price or not. They absolutely do negotiate too. My last sales rep came down on the price twice before I agreed by about $250.

Good luck.

Their ad jingle is the absolute worst; right up there with that "Apply to the forehead" commercial. A woman I work with had quotes from Lowes, HomeD, a local carpet and tile store, and Empire for the same Stainmaster carpet and Empire was several hundred more. She went with HomeD because they had a sale coming up.

What ever you do DO NOT EVER use Carpet One. They are so horrible and disreputable. They did a job for the Better Business Bureau and even screwed them!! That's pretty bad.

They charged my sister for about 600 sq. feet more flooring than was used. They did not leave the remnants (because there weren't any really) and even charged her installation charges on this non-existent flooring. It was just a big rectangular room - so it's not that a lot was lost in odd corners - just a big scam.

We purchased laminate floors through Empire Today. They DID come the next day. They installed in our living room, foyer, hallway, and kitchen. They were wonderful, and so is the floor 2 years later.

We were going to use them for a quick carpet replacement before we put our house up for sale. The salesman wanted to know what our income was. The price quoted was 3X's what we ended having a local carpet store do the job for. Maybe we just had a disreputable salesman, but I would check out some other places just so you can compare! Good luck!
