Could someone please explain what must be done in order to take advantage of EMH on the day you check in? Do you need to show a room key, or is EMH tied to your tickets? Thanks.

You have to check into your hotel first. EMH is tied to your hotel key. Your room may not be ready so Bell Services will hold your luggage for you.

Do they scan your room key? If so, won't it be invalid because it hasn't been activated yet (or assigned a room)?

No, they only look at the key. Your key has your name and the dates of your stay printed on them.

Just FYI the key is activated at check-in. You can charge things to your resort account even before you have been assigned a room number.

One more quick question: can we use the park ticket the day before check in? We are arriving midday and are staying with a friend the first night.

The park ticket is completely separate from your DLR stay so you can use it before you check in. You only show both the ticket (which will be scanned) and your room key (which will be looked at) for EMH.
