EMH in January

We are going to be there 1/23-1/29 and had a question about evening EMH and crowds. I have a co-worker who has gone twice and recommended we stay clear of the parks that are offering the evening EMH because he felt the crowds were much bigger than normal. Now he went in June and May which are busier months. What have people's experience been in January. I see it as a great opportunity to spend some extra hours in the park at a time of the year when they close earlier. Thanks for any help.

I would also like to know about this. We went in July and did not do any EMH specifically because of the crowds.

We are also going in January and I would love to do a couple of EMH (evenings mostly) Since the parks are not open really late, it would give us a chance to linger and have more fun.

Anyone can answer this?

I am curious about this too. Everything that I have read says to stay away from the EMH because of the crowds. I am going to be there 1/9-1/16 which I know is MLK weekend, so I expect the weekend to be busier because of that.

We were there last January and did evening EMHs at Epcot and MGM twice. No crowds. The only thing was, that this was brand new then, so I'm not sure how it will be now. It was cool in the evenings and that seemed to drive some people out of the parks, especially those who weren't dressed properly. ;)

Hey! We'll see you there!

Since EMH are for Disney resort guest only.... 3 questions come to mind?
:teacher:
How many total rooms does Disney now have?
What is the percentage of rooms that are typical filled in January?
How many people fit in the MK? Before it is considered crowded?

I noticed the same thing last year. The parks were deserted, with the exception of the MK, and the crowds there were definitely smaller. But we were there the same day the nightime EMH started, so that might have had something to do with it. I would say give it a shot, and if it's mobbed, don't do it again. Can't hurt to see how the crowds will be. I'll be there Jan 3 - 10, so you could always leave me a message after that and ask me how they were. I'm a bit of a night owl, so I'm hoping they aren't crowded. I'm definitely more of a sleep in late stay out late person, but I will get up early at WDW if the need arises!

Thanks for the info, since it just started last January maybe a better question would be how have those people who have been in what is considered a slower time of the year experience been with the evening EMH. I'm leaning on going for it. As it turns out we will only have 3 to take advantage of Epcot, MGM and AK, which does not look to have enough open to warrant it so we'll probably try it with other 2. I will definetly post my impressions when I get back.

I will let you know when we get back. We will be there the first couple of weeks in January '06.

We'll be there almost the same time as you ( Jan 2 - 9 ). Hoping for low crowds but planning to try the early AM EMH. Have park hopper passes - so if the crowds are bad, will hop.

I really think the weather will be in your favor, especially if it's chilly. I saw people leaving the parks who were cold, not dressed for it. Some had shorts and tees on, LOL, when we'd brought warm jackets and mittens (where we'd come from it was below 0 so even in the 30's to us it was warm and the kids went swimming when we got back to the resort ;) ). Most nights we were there mittens weren't needed but one they definitely were. We rode RnRC 14 times and ToT 10 in two EMH nights - only time it was busy was when Fantasmic let out, for about an hour afterward. Epcot was pretty dead, too. Good luck, definitely try it! :wizard:

I have been wondering the same thing too. We will be there Jan 13-24. I know that MLK weekend will be really busy, but I was thinking of trying out the EMH at night the last week of our trip. Hopefully it won't be too bad. But I figure it doesn't hurt to try it. If it is too crowded, we will just go back to the room.
