We were planning on heading to MK on May 4 but just saw on Touring Plans that it is EMH that day.
We are not staying on property this time.

How bad are the lines at 9:00 those days? I was told that unless you are staying at the resorts, you should avoid the parks on those days.

Our plan would be to rope drop then check out the welcome show at 8:55 then head over to Splash Mountain/BigTMRR straight away.

Second question:
Which night might be less crowded for fireworks?
Friday, May 4 or Sunday May 6. Friday has the EMH.

I’m not sure about this but on days with EMH, do they do two rope drops? Pretty sure they do one with the EMH...but I could be wrong.

From my experience, there are 2 problems with going on EMH day: Sometimes it is significantly more crowded and there are already lines at park opening if you go on a morning EMH day. One year we went we were at MK two Wednesdays that had Evening EMHs. I think those days were probably more crowded but it wasn't unbearable or anything (and this was in a pretty crowded time of year- early August). We also did Epcot morning EMH one day and the park was not really crowded that day (Soarin' had a posted 35 minutes most of the day and that was only 2 months after the new Soarin' opened). Another time we were there a morning EMH day at MK and that didn't effect crowds so much (although that time it was October). But the main thing I'm normally concerned about is that if you go a day with morning EMH there are already lines for rides. But if you are doing Splash or BTMRR first, that shouldn't effect anything because I don't think those two rides are open during morning EMH. So, if you could go another day I would recommend it just because there could be more crowds but if it doesn't work to do that or it's your last day or something, MK should be just fine.

Seems like the morning EMH doesn’t affect crowds as much. On site guests with hoppers can go and then hop somewhere else. When EMH is at night, on site guests with hoppers start flooding the park in the afternoon after spending time in another park.

I plan my park days by avoiding emh since I don't stay on site. Since you don't plan on 7dmt, Peter Pan, or Space Mountain, then you should be fine going to Splash/Thunder. But yes it will be a lot more crowded than a regular day

Also, they will only do the welcome show for the EMH crowd. They don't do it twice.

Ok, thanks. This is good stuff to know and think about.

We do have 2 MK days. One day we plan to leave after the parade (no break).
The other day we'll be there until 2 or so, go back to the hotel for a rest, then back later for fireworks.

So maybe the EMH day would be good to split up with the break...

I have BOG res for both days and will cancel the one with EMH.

And I remembered since posting that we can still get in to Main Street at 8 -- it's just the rest of the park that doesn't open until 9.

Based on your responses, I had another question that I added above: what day will be best for fireworks?
Friday, May 4 or Sunday, May 6?

Since you have two days planned, one with EMH and one without, please come back and report on what, if any, difference there was for you. I would only request that you get to MK about the same time both days to make a more accurate comparison and start a new thread so we can find it. TIA!
