Hi,
just looking for some information on what happens when someone is cruising and there is an emergency back home.

One of our fellow cruisers mother is sick and she is fretting about what might transpire should she be needed back at home...

Anyone have experience with this???

Thanks
Jodie

I don't know what to tell you about the times at sea, but we were on the Magic on October 5, when my father's situation became grave. Yes he was ill before we left, but not to the point where the doctor felt we should cancel our trip. We got the call to come home on Wednesday, while in port. The first thing I did was call guest services. They took care of everything I needed. They helped me pack, carried my luggage off ship, called their port agent to get tickets for me, and got me a ride to the travel agency and the airport. I don't know what would have happened had we been at sea. Good luck and I wish for the best.

twhipple,
Thanks for the info... I think she is just really needing to know that if she needs to she can get back home at some point...

hopefully there will be no need, but a Plan B is always good!

Also, there is a number to call incase someone back home needs to get in contact with aboard ship in the event of an emergency. I do not remember it off the top of my head, but I know it is in the booklet of documents you will get at home before sailing.

from the other point of view...
if something happens to you while you're traveling...
we always travel with the kind of travel health insurance that will evacuate you in a medical evacuation plane with a doctor, to get you back home...
even when we travel in the US, where ostensibly the medical care is good....i still don't want to be hospitalized there and would want to be transported back home....
so we always have the kind of insurance that will transport us back home regardless of the level of medical care available locally....

If your main concern is being returned to your home for hospitalization, there's a great membership plan for a fleet of ambulance jets. For a nominal annual fee, you are assured that they will come get you and bring you home. It's a great deal, especially if you travel a lot.

Another reason to travel with a passport instead of Birth Certificate. It makes coming home in a hurry a lot easier.
