Apparently the 999 number is down for most the west midlands! o dear!

Least it's still early i suppose.

Apparently it's only land lines, so if you use your mobile should be okay. Not quite sure how that works, but apparently it does.

Mobiles can often go to any 999 call centre in the UK but landlines are different and have 'assigned' call centres. Often at work we get misrouted 999 calls from mobiles that go through Wales or Scotland!

Just as a point of information if you are using a mobile to make an emergency call you should use 112. This number takes priority over all other calls and will be accepted by the stongest network in the area, even if this not not your normal network.

You can also, ion most phones, dial 112 from a mobile even if the handset is locked.

112 is the European Emergency number can be used all over Europe.

coming from a 999 operator, they should be re-routing all your 999 calls through another force nearby so calls should be getting answered but it will take longer.

I just hope it doesnt force people to phone 999 for non-emergency calls just to 'see if its working'. That happens all the time at my place of work and its blooming annoying!
