Emerald Island - help with shortcuts to the parks

Okay - I've read about the Sherburth (sp?) road shortcut to the parks from Emerald Island, but when I try to mapquest the way to the parks, it only has me use this on the way to AK. Is that the only place it's really a shortcut to?

Also, when I mapquest the way to MK, it has me go west on 192 and up 27 to exit 6. Is this the best way to go, or do you go to all the parks by cutting through Sherburth and then going basically from AK to the other parks?

Thanks for any help/suggestions you can give me!

most of the time it is shorter to turn right on US 192 West and take the exit to WDW.

but I also like the AK one. It sames me time - because although there are only a couple of traffic lights on US 192 - those lights go forever (okay about 5 minutes- well maybe only 3)

you know turn right at the traffic light - this roads become Osceola Parkway.

a little further down (pass the exits for all stars) is an exit to the other theme parks.

the only problem will be an accident. this is until it becomes Osceola Parkway a one lane road on each side.

We use the Sherbeth Road junction for all the WDW parks from EI.

As spiceycat says, stay on Osceola Parkway until you see a sign for all parks. It is a left hand turn, so we usually get in the LH lane as soon as we safely can to that we are prepared for the LH turn. It is sign posted, but it could be more prominently signed, just be aware of the pending turn.

When returning to EI - follow the signs for AK & AK Lodge, until you see a sign that says AK right, AKL left, then you get in the left hand lane towards AKL and take the left at the next lights onto Sherbeth Road. If you miss the lights you end up at ALK, so just turn around.

Thanks! Kay, one question on yours. Where you mention "the sign for all parks", that's the turnoff for Sherbeth Road? Will it actually say that anywhere? Thanks again!

The thing about Sherbeth is everyone knows about it now, so the traffic can really back up.

When you get on Sherberth you go to the lights and turn right, you'll be on Osceola Prkwy . As Kay said get in the left hand lane, there's a sign that says to all parks but if you're not looking for it you could miss it. This will take you to World Drive and on to the other parks.
We usually use the shortcut for all parks especially when coming out at the end of the day. Most people will be headed for I - 4 and 192 and you'll be headed for AK area.

::yes:: ::yes::

We do this as well..

If it looks like the left lane onto "Entry Point Blvd", aka Sherbeth Road, is somewhat backed up, we head on straight to the Maingate entry.

It's a loooooong wait for that left turning light from the 192 onto Sherbeth...and if the middle/right lanes are clearer, it's quicker to go on to the maingate.

Have fun! and don't forget a Disney music CD for the car!
It's wonderful to hear Zippadeedooda on your way to the Parks!

And if you miss the lane change for AK vs. AKL, and wind up heading through the parking lot at AK, just tell the CM at the toll booth what happened.

They'll smile, wave you through, with directions to go up the ramp, and loop you back out to the Sherbeth Road/Osceola Parkway intersection lights.

You'll go straight through them, then:)

HTH!!

This is what I pass onto our guests. Just so you know every single person has visited AK. Also my uncle had a tough time getting out of EI. Ya gotta love that one.

You will be directed to Clubhouse for car pass.

Short cut to Disney property
Turn right leaving Emerald Island Resort onto Funie Stead Rd
at stop sign take left onto Formosa Gardens Blvd
At light turn right onto 192 east
turn left at the first light onto Sherberth Rd
follow to light
at light take right unless going to Animal kingdom lodge

On return follow signs to Animal Kingdom lodge and at light take left onto Sherberth Rd

Grocery Stores
At the Junction of the 192 and Funnie Steed Road is a Winn Dixie

If you turn left on the 192 and drive for approx 1 or so miles to Orange Lakes you will find a Publix Supermarket (on the right hand side).

If you continue left on the 192, take the 27 north (right tuen), just after you get onto the 27 there is a 24 hour Walmart with groceries. Turn right at the first set of stop lights to access it. The walmart is set off the road with smaller stores/restaurants in front of it so it may not be instantly noticeable.

From the entrance to Emerald Island turn right.

Go to the junction with Formosa Gardens/Sandhill Road. Turn left.

Go to the 192, turn right. Get into the LH lane as soon as possible. At the next lights you turn left onto Sherbeth Road. Follow this onto Disney Property. At the next lights you turn right - this is Osceola Parkway. (If you went left you would be at AKL.

You should now be on Osceola Parkway.

To get to AK, get into the LH lane quickly because the turn for AK is very close.

To get to the other parks stay on Osceola Parkway for a bit longer, but do get over to the LH side in preparation for the LH turn. At some point you see the sign for all parks and then turn left. Then continue to follow the directions to the park you are interested in

Does that make sense?

If you look at http://www.emeraldislandorlando.com/Location/index.php, there is a map showing EI and the Disney attractions. It is an interactive google map so you can zoom in and follow the road through the the parks. Hopefully that will help you visualize the route.

Hope that helps,

Thanks all! I cut and pasted all this into a Word document and hopefully I can make it make sense! Kay - the Google map was extremely helpful too (compared to Mapquest!).

Just clarifying while looking at the Google map - from EI, you'd go to Oak Island Road, then Formosa Garden Blvd, then right on 192 and left on Sherberth? You wouldn't take Funie Steed all the way over to Entry Point Blvd., which it looks like turns into Sherberth because it's a dirt road?

That's right...at least as of Jan'07 is was still dirt. I'm not sure if there are plans to pave it any time soon...it looked to us that there might be plans for future construction through there, though:confused3

I know it all sounds so confusing to read about it:) - you'll be amazed when you get there at how easy it is:goodvibes

Have fun! Wish we were going with you!!

You can take Funie Steed over to Entry Point which turns into Sherberth when you cross 192. When we stayed at WH we use to take Funie Steed over to Formosa Gardens Blvd and then up to Red Lobster on corner of 192. The dirt part is less than a mile and hard packed sand so it pretty good. No traffic.
As was said, once you do this shortcut you'll see how easy it is.

We always used Sherberth Road due to the volume of traffic and number of traffic lights on the 192.

I am told you can now also use the new beltway 429 to get to WDW as well from the 192.
