embarassing question - new to the OOP idea!

So we have used the Dining Plan the past 6 trips - so forgive me for asking a silly question. Now that our 10 year old DD will be a *Disney Adult* on our next trip - we are considering skipping the Dining Plan.

So when paying OOP for a kids meal..am I correct in assuming that when ordering a "kids meal" not on the Dining Plan, it will no longer include an appetizer and dessert? Everything will be priced seperate... For example - at Via Napoli:
Kids salad: $6.00
Pizza: $9.50
dessert: $5.00
drink: $3.00

total - $23.50 - yes?

Via Napoli is not a good example. It's not a Disney restaurant and its child's menu is not the same as the ones at Disney restaurants.

At most WDW restaurants the kids meal components are not priced separately. At some they are, however, and yes you would have to pay for each component if you wanted to order all of them.

Many of the kid meal options include the entree, a side, or even two, dessert and a drink. I have never used the dining plan (gonna try it in Jan. for the first time) we've always done oop. IMO the kids meals are an excellent buy!

We've found (with DD9, who is not a big eater) that the TS kids meals are more than enough food for her, and the CS meals are not enough. Usually when we eat CS, we'll get one adult meal to share, and then get an additional side dish or salad.

This is how I think we will do it. The only reason DD9 wants the Adult Dining Plan is for the adult dessert options - clearly not the best value.

LOL...well, normally DD gets to choose the dessert, and I either share it (even if it isn't what I would have ordered) or I get the kids dessert. If there's something I REALLY want, then I buy a second dessert. Usually I get dessert-ED out though, and don't mind not getting my own.

From my understanding, everyone in your party will have to be on the dining plan.

Everyone on your party has to be on the DDP. However ... you can still pay OOP for your selections and save your credits for another meal (like a buffet).

You'll be fine. Tell the server you are on separate checks. Order your soupl and pay that plus the tip for it.

Just my luck! After our 10 day trip last May it is the one and only TS place that we all agree on we must eat at again.

Paying oop, Via Napoli is potentially 1 of the cheaper restaurants for a family. It's not like most children need an individual appetizer, entree, beverage, and dessert. Easy enough to split a large pizza among multiple people. Even at the rather high pizza prices, that still makes it much cheaper than most ts restaurants.

You'll be fine. Tell the server you are on separate checks. Order your soupl and pay that plus the tip for it.

While at the restaurant this would technically work, the prior poster is also correct that Disney will require you to purchase the DDP for each member of your party staying in the room for each night of your stay. So unless you have two separate rooms, you must also purchase the DDP.

It sounds like you've already paid for the DDP for all of you, but that doesn't mean you have to use it. The PP is correct that you can "bank" your TS credits by just paying OOP for what you really want. Then you could potentially have enough credits to do either signature meals or more TS meals. The only drawback will be your DD. If she is under 10, at some point, you will have enough adult credits for DH, but you'll then have to also pay OOP for DD.
