Ok, I know, suppose to be vacation, but..hubby has a little bit of work to do on our sea days. Are there any options disk/cd on the ship for him to email his work back to the office.

Thanks for the help.

Cheryl

They have computers with internet connections or an "internet cafe" it is pricy though..... ::MickeyMo

They don't provide access to disk or cd's. If you have access to a web-based email, then you would be able to do emails.

Who'd want to e-mail work duing V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N! When hubby returns, tell his work that the ship lost internet communication while at sea. LOL! Hope hubby doesn't replace fun with family with working on a cruise ship that you'll never see for at least six mo. to a year. Best wishes to your e-mail free cruise. You can never replace precious family time.

I believe he would have access to web based email

However I believe that there is not way to access anything off the PC (no floppy drive, no CD, no USB for thumb drive) so if he needs to send an attachment of some sort, I don't believe that will be possible.

I knew people that used to take cruises because it was just about the last possible place to truly get away. You should have never told him there are computers on board. :badpc:

However, perhaps he could email whatever file he is working on to a web-based email acount, edit it there and send it back.

I hope I'm never so important that I have to work during vacation. :smooth:

If files need to be sent and they can't be copied onto the Internet Cafe PCs, then I would consider using something like the GotoMyPC service.

Has anyone ever done anything like this from the ship?

GotoMyPC (.com) is a service that allows you to connect to another PC from a browser. In this case, your husband's PC is left at home (or perhaps even at work), turned on and properly configured with the GotoMyPC software so that he can login to it from a DCL Internet Cafe PC using only the browser. There are also some other similar services, like MyWebExPC.

Feel your husband should just go on the cruise and relax - thats was holidays or vacations are for.

Work will still be there when you get home I am sure.

have a great time anyway

Thanks..I know he should relax..but, we are on the 14 night panama, with lots of days at sea. Plenty of time for me (no kids thank goodness..they are all grown) and him to have fun, even with a little bit of work.

I will let him know about the go to my pc software..thank you very much.

I had to keep in touch with my office to review a bunch of proposals we had going on - they sent me e-mails with the attached files, which I was able to open and print in the internet cafe, or just open and modify on the internet cafe computer - then I could resend back. So, no, you can't transfer a file on a thumb drive or a disk, but I was able to do everything I needed to do. I ran each morning between 6:15 and 7:15 or so (for some reason I woke up like clock work and it was so peaceful on Deck 4 - you couldn't get me awake to do that now at home if my life depended on it!) and then I'd hit the internet cafe for an hour to catch up. By the time I got back to the stateroom, the kids were just waking up and breakfast was arriving. Worked out great. The $90 for the week of internet service was well worth it - and I had plenty of family time, too!
