Email and Internet Scams. Please Read.

I am sure that most of you here are wise enough to know better than respond to email scams, but just in case, I beg of you to make your family and friends aware. I am a teller at a bank and we have had 3 customers scammed this week alone. Two of them received money orders from women in Nigeria asking them to cash them and they could keep half if they would send them the rest. Another was a woman that had received a cashiers check from a man over the internet. All of these turned out to be fake. Now these customers are having to pay back the money. I don't know the specifics of what they are being told. I do know they are lonely adults looking for love online and are being taken advantage of.

I promise to you that this is the truth. I personally cashed 4 money orders for one of the men for $750 each. This is a regular customer who has an account in good standing, so I had no reason to question his actions at the time. Another lady at another branch was trying to get a large sum of money because she swears she has won the Canadian lottery and must send this money for the taxes and they will be here in two weeks with her 2 million dollars. The manager spent a very long time trying to tell this woman that there is NO LOTTERY MONEY coming to her, but she is adament.

I just wanted to make everyone aware and to show that people really do fall for these scams. Just remember, if it sounds too good to be true, most likely IT IS!!
