I buy CDs pretty regularly, but I'm not usually inspired to share my joy in finding a good one (which is becomming increasingly rare.) But I picked up EJ's new one (Peachtree Road) the other day and am AMAZED by it. I always liked him okay, but got sick of his overplayed 70s hits and found most of his late 80s/early 90s music just so mediocre. Like he was just always trying for a hit. This one lacks that entirely - it is just purely good music. Contains everything that is great about him. And I was also thinking that it can't be easy for an English gentleman to sing of the American South with such soul and understanding.
The lyrics of all the songs are unbeatable (only downside is that he can sometimes be hard to understand.) If anyone has this CD - is "Turn the Lights Out When You Leave" not the best break up song EVER ("if everything's been said, I'm heading back to bed...")??? How cool. And "Answer In The Sky" almost moved me to tears on my morning drive.
I'm going to pick up a copy of "Songs from the West Coast" next chance I get. Apparantly he's been making some good music lately while I wasn't paying attention.
