Elsa Costume ~ Why me :)

I'm just annoyed that Disney named a Princess Elsa.

I have a six year old daughter named Elsa and it was a very uncommon name and now there are going to be a billion little girls named Elsa six years younger than her and everyone is going to assume we named her after the Disney movie in a few years after it is far enough away that people don't realize that the math doesn't work out on their assumption.

The same thing happened to me, with BOTH my kids!

We named my daughter after her grandmother, and it was a very unusual name for North America (though more common in Romania).

Then a year after she was born, a TV show came out featuring a character with that name. Next thing I know, everyone's asking me if I named her after that TV show.

Every other person she's met with her name is 5-8 years younger than her (says something about the show's demographic, I think).

My son, meanwhile, got a name that was also reasonably uncommon for the time. I even had to argue with my mother that it was a "real" name, not just a nickname. Then a couple weeks after he was born Titanic came out.

Yep, he's a "Jack". And so are a million other young men of his generation. He's even had the experience of having to have his last initial tacked onto his name to differentiate him from all other "Jack's" in his class!

I think Elsa is much more likely. Those two examples are pretty strange for a regular modern name. Elsa is a pretty normal name that had just fallen out of fashion. We've met a few Elsa's but it was almost always middle-age+ women which was just fine with me. I didn't want a common name but I didn't want if to be weird either.

I don't know if you realize this or not but Isabella came from not being in the top ten to number one on the list for girls names for two years during the Twilight craze and then disappeared again. I just hope that doesn't happen with Elsa. Jacob was the boys name during those same years which is also from Twilight. Jacob has been popular for a while though so it's pretty hard to pin that one on Twilight.

Isabella was in the top 10 for several years before Twilight came out, and it continues to be in the top 10, so I'm not sure what site you are using for your info. My name (both first and middle) have been in the top 10 regularly for decades. It's never annoyed me in the slightest. It's not the name that makes one special, it's their personality. :goodvibes

Call the Mall of America Disney store in MN. They always seem to have stuff in stock when no one else does. I've gotten that from reading forums on here. It's where I got a Sofia dress last year when no one else could find them.

Another store to try might be the Times Square TDS in NYC. They get stocked with priority. While all Disneystores will ship, I am not 100% sure that Times square does, but worth a shot. (212) 626-2910

has anyone tried calling disneyland merchandise guest services to see if they have any you could have shipped?

Probably nothing along the lines of the creations that you have made for your daughter! I have a favorite PDF pattern designer and belong to their pattern of the month club. The pattern this month is one she created for her daughter after they saw Frozen when it came out.

I'm not sure if I can link to the site w/o breaking DIS board rules. If I can, I'll post it!

I'd appreciate a PM too, although I bet it'd be ok to share it here.

U.S. census naming data. The name became popular as the books gained popularity and then peaked at number one for two years when the movies came out and and then fell off again.

Can you just buy individual parts and put them together?

sequin cami ... http://www.shopjustice.com/girls-clothing/sequin-cami/9025381/696

teal maxi skirt ... http://www.cwdkids.com/servlet/quag...dium=organic&gclid=CKnvzoqd77sCFYl9OgodeF4AkQ

And find a pretty sequined scarf to use to flow down both sides. Cut it in half and stitch it along the collar of a white tight t shirt. You can always sew on some sequin snowflakes or simply use fabric glue with sparkles and make your own snowflakes on it.

I'm looking as well! If I find them, I'll be sure to post. We'll be going to Disney in Feb and my 4 year old (will be 5 during the trip) wants nothing more than to wear Elsa's dress so I understand!! Worse case is I'm hoping either BBB gets them back in stock or I can find one in Downtown Disney....

Depending on how big your 5 yr old daughter is this might be an option.http://www.target.com/p/disney-frozen-elsa-toddler-doll-dress-combo/-/A-14506375#prodSlot=medium_1_4&term=elsa+doll

I bought it for my 4 yr old and its a 4t dress but it fits her perfect shes about 40lbs maybe a little under and 42" tall.

There is a new Buy it Now Listing on eBay for $149 right now. It looks like it was just recently listed. Size 10. Hope this helps. :-)

Kind of one complaint about that costume, why the gloves with that dress? If I remember correctly doesn't Else ditch them before she changes her dresses? Not a big deal I just don't see why they are including them.

Probably for the same reason Rapunzel has long hair again. I don't think Disney watches their own movies. (Or that they don't call her prince Eugene. That one actually really bothers me.)

Overall, it kind of gives more play value though. Kids can wear Elsa's gloves to pretend to be her when she needed to wear them, wrecking havoc when they take them off. Even if it is in the wrong dress.

Their website says they ship to select European countries. But maybe you could ship to someone in Europe and have them send it on?

Ooh, great finds for Disneybounding as Elsa.

I am feeling everyone's pain.

We were there in October, before the movie came out, and I wasn't sure what it was about, but thought that Anna was the main character, and that Elsa was maybe the nemesis character. The only trailer released at that time was of Olaf and Sven.

In any case, we are at BBB, and they had just gotten a shipment of dresses. Neither of my daughters were particularly interested, but, on a whim and a hunch, I bought one of each (Elsa for my 7yr old, and Anna for my 4yr old). Thank heavens I did!

As soon as the movie came out I could not get the dresses off the girls. My DD7, has announced that Elsa is the only dress she wants to bring on our February trip. My DD 4 now has two Anna dresses, the ball dress, which we got at BBB, and the "traveling" dress she got for Christmas from her grandparents.

Of course, now my DD4 has decided she ALSO wants to be Elsa... My solution... the Elsa nightgown from Disneystore: http://www.disneystore.com/elsa-nightgown-for-girls-frozen/mp/1339096/1000305/
:confused3

Currently online they only have 2/3 and 4, but I'm guessing stores individually might have more availability.

The nightgown is really nice, quite sturdy, and with another tulle skirt or something under it would pass for a simple Elsa dress. It has a train an everything, but not nearly as much glitter!!!! :lmao:

I also love the idea of making my own... but knowing me, I would spend more on the materials than if I just waited and bought it.

For the OP - Disney has got to be ramping up production of these dresses (I hope), so maybe in the next month there will be lots available, and you will be able to find one at a reasonable price. :goodvibes

I remember this being an issue with Rapunzel's dress at the beginning, we were there when the movie came out, and because of a manufacturing defect there was not a dress to be found. They literally pulled them off the shelves. I remember thinking I should have bought one when I saw it - which is probably what saved me on the Anna/Elsa thing.

Wishing everyone looking for dresses pixie dust and I will be sure to report any I see! pixiedust:

This 45-year-old mama wants the Anna Adventure dress for herself!

I was just at the disney store looking for a present for a birthday party Saturday, as the twin girls are obsessed much like every other five year old around. I was hoping to at least get one Anna and one Elsa t shirt, but there was almost nothing Elsa to be found in the store. I did find one plush Elsa doll, and the CM told me it was the last one in the store. So they both got Anna shirts and Olaf cups. There is very limited Frozen anything. I bought my niece an Elsa dress back in early November and they had a bunch then- if I had known I would have picked one up for my own daughter but got her Anna at the time!

I make disney princess headbands on Etsy- and I had to list Elsa as sold out, I can't keep up with them right now and I'm out of snowflakes!

I agree with it adding play value, good thought! :thumbsup2

As for the Rapunzel thing I can understand that more as everyone knows Rapunzel to have long hair and IMO she just looks much better with the blonde hair than brown. I don't think Elsa is known as someone who does or doesn't wear gloves and I don't think it changes how pretty she is :rotfl2: But maybe to some it does!

I was lucky to buy the Elsa costume Black Friday on the disney store site. But if I had ANY idea how much GLITTER would decorate pretty much everything it comes into contact with, I would have thought twice. I swear the glitter is perma stuck to my hardwood floors. my husband even has had to withhold hugs from my 3 year old DD ( who wears it everyday) so he doesn't walk out the door with glitter on his face. I think the sleepwear dress is a great alternative !
