Our family adores Ellen and actually threw her name out there as someone we'd like to see as a judge. She's a great music critic and hopefully she will be able to give an honest opinion without feeling badly.

Anyone would be better than Paula! Remember, Simon doesn't have a music background either, he's just a good critic for entertainment.

I wonder what made them choose Ellen? Does she have any music skills?? She's more of an entertainer. I can see her on America's got Talent instead of AI.

Last I heard they were in serious talks with Queen Latifah taking Paula's spot. I thought that would've been a good fit. The deal with Queen Latifah must of feel thru or something..

I think it's hilarious that people say Ellen can't judge because she has no musical background. I guess they don't realize Paula Abdul lip synced all her songs back in the day. All her albums were mega produced to the point that an 8 year old could have sung them.

First of all I think it's just pathetic. Even though Paula could be a bit ditzy at times, at least she offered a positive comment or perspective for the contestants. Ellen is about as polar opposite of Paula as you could get. She is rude, lewd, and crude. Hardly what the show needs.

Secondly, I don't think it's going to last to long. Ellen has no clue how to keep her mouth in check. All it's going to take is one ignorant / offensive comment about Simon and she's gone.

In a way I guess it is good news though. As long as she's on the show, there is one less thing I need to try and watch now.

I only said that about Ellen because when the judges critique the contestants about their singing, they get technical. You know how they talk about the bravato, if a certain note was off key, what the contestants need to work on in their singing, etc... They can get technical.... Even when they have guest judges, they all have a musical background. Just my thought

Fascinating! I am looking forward to it. As for her having no "background" in music or the industry...who cares?? Most critics don't. I think she'll add an interesting POV and certainly some wit.

Anyone who is "out" (of watching the show) over the inclusion (or lack o)f any particular judge is a fair-weather fan at BEST. The show isn't about the judges or the host, or the locations...it's about the contestants. PERIOD.

I watch the show for the singers. Truthfully, I fast forward through ALL of the judges critiques. They are pointless with the exception of Simon who always tells it like it is. If someday he left the show, I would still watch and continue FF'ing through the judges BLATHER.

Are you sure you know who Ellen DeGeneres is? Ellen is the exact opposite of what you just described. And she is also very good friends with Simon, so I don't see any of that happening.

I am not attacking her as a person. I have no idea what she is like in real life. For all I know she is the nicest person on TV. All I can do is judge what I have seen of her. Many of you are saying that on her show she is nice and kind and other things. I'll have to take your word on that. I have seen her on quite a few occasions on different specials, shows, etc... and every time I have heard her I've been amazed at how crude and offensive she was. I have never heard anything even somewhat resembling what many of you are saying.
I don't know, maybe for her show they have tried to soften up her image. I've never had any kind of desire to watch her show, so again, I'll just have to take all of your word on it.

I still don't think that she will last any longer than a single season (if that long even), but I'll guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I have never been one to watch AI, but now that Ellen is on the show, I'll be watching.
