Eligible dates for free dining

I know that if free dining ends on lets say Jan 10 and your stay runs until the Jan 12, your free dining is extended. Does it work in reverse? Say free dining starts on Jan 5 and you want to check in on Jan 2? This may be our scenario in January should Disney offer free dining (which has typically started Jan 4 or 5). We need to check in by Jan 2 because granddaughter has to be back in college by the 11th. Of course we would like to take advantage of free dining...

No. If free dining is not offered the day you check in, then you are not eligible.

There probably won't be any free dining in January (it's never for sure, but there hasn't been for at least the past two years, maybe three - the discount given in January has been Stay Play and Dine, not free dining) if that was not just an example date. Unless you are from the UK.

For your scenario to result in free dining (or Stay Play and Dine) for any part of your trip, you'd have to book two separate reservations, one from 1/2 to 1/5 and one from 1/5 to 1/11. You'd have to buy tickets on the second reservation for sure.

That's for sure. Free dining is a fossil now for times other than fall.

It's a discount, but not free dining.

The discount is akin to an adult eating for the price of a child. Although any vacation planner will admit it's a mythological formula.
