Why do teachers have the kids tear out the pages from their work books? It would be nice to be able to keep the workbooks at the end of the year. Also, it wouldn't create so many loose papers coming home everyday.

I would guess that it is easier than expecting 30 kids to all remember to bring their workbook back to school the next day.

Yep, easier to grade and easier for the child to deal with. It's not fun trying to shuffle a workbook around on the desk for a child. Besides, if you waited to send the papers home until the workbook was finished the parents would wonder what you do all day and what their childs grades were. :D

Yes, easier to grade, easier to send home. It is also easier to walk around the room and track progress if they have a single sheet on their desk as opposed to a workbook. Another reason is if that when workbooks have perforated pages it is often hard to keep the pages from coming out when used for an extended period of time.

Ditto the others!

I have subbed in classes where the workbooks stayed together, the kids bring their completed work up and pile it on the desk. It takes a lot of time to open to the correct page to mark the books. Plus it makes a HUGE pile :)

Would you want to try to shove 30 workbooks in your bookbag so you could take them home to grade?

Also, it's difficult for the kids to write on the back side of a worksheet, since it usually doesn't lay flat.

Lori P. :)

Yeah, can you imagine bringing home 30 books in your bag? No thank you!

Easier to magnetize to the fridge. One page as opposed to a book.

I also have to add from a parent's perspective that now my kid's math workbooks don't have perforated pages. They bring them home when they're finished. I barely look at them - it seems silly when much of the work was done month ago. When they bring a sheet I can see at a glance if they had trouble with something.
