Does anyone know if Disney is still doing updates on original Pal Mickeys? We are thinking of bringing ours for next week, but only if he can have the new information downloaded into him.

yes, he still gets updated, but not with all the options of the new pal mickey. Be sure to have fresh batteries as it does suck up alot of power to update him. If it doesn't work, go to the camera shop and they can take care of the update. They told me that Mickey must face forward as he enters the park.

We were there in October and they did. It was off of main street along with virtual Magic Kingdom. We love him! :flower:

Thanks! We usually go into the small shop in Epcot at the International entrance where they give him a "nose job". They upload new programming through the sensor (wrong word, but it's too early for me to think "hardware") in his nose.

We just bought one of the old Mickey's for our first trip to DIsney next month. Do we need to take our Mickey to a shop or just turn him on and walk into the park??? Not sure how this woirks.

Thanks

here is some tech savy for you all

The old pal mickeys can not be updated with "new" information. They can only play the phrases and information that is pre programed inside them which is trigered by infrared sensors in the park.

Your mickey should work fine when he goes into the gate. But if that doesnt work you can always get him programed with is a false use of the word. All it does is manualy unlock the information hidden inside of him.

So to wrap this up new pal mickey has more stuff in him while old mickey is good it can not be programed with the same stuff as the newer version.

What do you consider the "old" Pal Mickey's?

I bought my Pal Mickey a few months after they came out. There is now a new version.

Thanks everyone! We'll bring Mickey somewhere to get a "nose job" so he can tell us all about the new stuff :).

:badpc: points back at his post he made earlier perhaps you should read it again.

old mickeys are the old design. new mickeys are the greatest celebration on earth design.

We took last years Pal Mickey on our vacation and bought a new one for DH and myself. The new one was having some problems and we took him to the camera shop at MGM for a check-up. While we were there the CM noticed DD's old Pal Mickey and said, "He's looking kinda dirty, would you like a new skin for him?" and she took out Mickey's guts and put them into a new "old" skin so he was nice and clean again. I thought this was pretty cool and it didn't cost a thing except the time to stand there while she traded out skins.

if only people could do that... that would be awsome.

Did you go the camera shop at MK when you first get in to the park? Do you just tell them, Mickey needs an update? If you do this, do you still need to have him face forward entering the park? all parks?

TIA

I have to butt in here.

Mecha Figment is absolutely correct. He can only say what he was originally programmed to say. No new information at all. DH and I bought Pal Mickey the first year he was offered (2003). We went back to the World in October 2005. He buzzed near the Stitch attraction and then told us something about Alien Encounter, which no longer exists.

What a bummer...wouldn't mind if we could pay for a chip swap and hear some new stuff in the parks. I wonder why they don't offer that?
