I really hope this doesn't turn into some anti-smoking debate, but I ocassionally use and E-cig when I'm having a cocktail and I'm wondering how others who use it do so at their resort. Do you only use it in the designated smoking areas? I know it's very different than a tobacco cigarette. I've even seen people use them on planes, but I don't want to offend anyone by using mine in a non-smoking area (like at the pool bar or on my balcony). Thanks

Think you will be asked to put it out anywhere indoors. To them smoking is smoking. They are extremely sensitive to non-smokers and children.

I used to smoke and someone who sees you smoking in a non-smoking area will 8 out of 10 times say something to a CM.

Don't know the official policy, but I have never seen anybody using one of them while in a lounge or restaurant at WDW.

I agree with the PPs. You know that there is no actual smoke from an E cigarette. And I know it. But buddy across the room from you won't know it. CMs treat E cigarettes the same as tobacco cigarettes. You would be asked to go to a designated smoking area.

Having said that, since there is no smoke (or smell) from an E cigarette, I would have no problems using one in my room, on my balcony, or privately outdoors, as long as I was being circumspect about it. Anywhere public (whether indoors, or outdoors where there are other people) no.

I agree, it's all in the looks of it. If it looks like a cigarette, even if it doesn't smell like a cigarette...someone will probably say something. It's just too easy for someone to call foul and say either "Well they can have that thing why can't I have a normal cigarette?" or "I can still smell it and I'm allergic!!" It's just too open to issues, I think. It's easier to say it's all not allowed than try to police something like that.

I think in an outdoors setting, like getting a drink from a kiosk in Epcot or sitting outside by the pool with a cocktail would be the place to TRY this, but you still might get looks or comments. I'd definitely say not to bother in any indoor lounges or bars.

My guess would be they will ask you to put it out.
I understand it is not a "real" cigarette; however, Disney would be spending mixed messages if you were allowed to "smoke" it non-smoking area.

Good Luck

Speaking as a parent, it isn't just the 2nd smoke exposure but my children seeing someone smoke. Neither of my kids know what a cigarette is and I like it that way.
Now, speaking as an ex-smoker, it must be hard to be smoking an e-cig around real cigarettes? That is assuming, you are trying to quit.
If you are in a room with a balcony, I would use the balcony. If you are in a quiet section of the resort, I would go to some corner and be very discreet about it.
If you are in a park, I would suggest you only use the designated areas or the parking lot.

Its a thing that looks like a cigarette that delivers nicotine but supposedly without as much harm as what a real cigarette does. You don't light it, you don't throw them out after each use, I think you put cartridges in them and it doesn't give off smoke. Its supposed to mimic the feel and look of a real cigarette. Granted I'm trying to remember this from the old commercials.

They call it vaping, because it gives off water vapor. I'm a smoker and have considered looking into them more, but haven't done it yet.

Thanks for your replies. Since our next trip we will be traveling with smokers I will be sure to use it in the parks only in the designated smoking areas. I will probably only use it in our villa and in very quiet public areas. I understand may people don't know what an E-Cig is and may get upset if they see me using it. It does produce water vapor when you puff on it that mimics a real cigarette but the water vapor disappears in seconds and has no smell. It's nothing like a smelly tobacco cigarette with ashes and lingering smelly smoke. I quit smoking "real" cigarettes 3 years ago, but when I'm having an adult beverage or others are smoking I get the urge to smoke also, so that it the reason for my E-Cig.

That is odd, because smoking electronic cigarettes is banned on US flights.

My son used one one of our vacations to WDW and he was directed to use it only in designated smoking areas, even at the resort. We were staying in a DVC villa.

You can almost compare an Ecig to non-alcoholic beer. Still need to be 21 to buy it. I would assume the rules stay the same. I think its easier for CMs to handle if they are consistant with rules. From a distance you dont know and they can't be sniffing each "smoker"

Will the vapors set off smoke alarms???

Will the vapors set off smoke alarms???

They shouldn't. The vapour is just water vapour. Smoke alarms are set off by particulate matter in the smoke. Large amounts of steam have been known to set off certain types of smoke detectors, but the amount generated by an E cig. shouldn't be enough to do it. You get more steam from a normal steam iron than you get from an E cig.

I've never smoked, will never smoke and advise anyone else to not smoke. HOWEVER - it's your choice. BUT -

It's the perception. It looks like a cigarette and "walks" like a cigarette so people are going to assume it's a cigarette. Quite honestly, I would not have a problem with you having a smoke in the areas Disney provides (and there are lots of them) but I would grumble if you walked around with an E-Cig since I can't really tell the difference. I still wish those manufacturers would make E-Cigs some sore of hugely pastel color so others could tell the difference but it ain't happenin'.

Actually, my E-Cig is black with a blue lighted tip :)

My husband used his last Oct. He was very discreet but a CM did ask him about it once at a bus stop - when he showed the CM it was electric, the CM just said he had never seen one. He usually keeps it cupped in his hand so that it is not obvious to those around him. He also usually only does it in smoking areas.

His tip lights up green! ;)

Thanks, not a smoker, but curious ;)

it is no smoking on any balcony or in any resort and this includes electronic cigs as well all have to be in designated areas. no smoking in bars either. Gal that works in our office husband just was in hopspital three weeks from elevtronic cigerette something in them shut his kidney's down. they actually told him if he wants to still smoke go back to the real ones until he makes up his mind to quit as they have no idea what is in those electronic vapors as are so many different kinds and none have been FDA approved. with him he just went ahead and quit--so far.I am a smoker so not getting on you at all. and I realize all the risk.
