What are the options for watching the electrical water pageant? We have a ps (7:15pm) for Chef Mickey's dinner one night so that would probably be the best night for us. If you watch at the Contemporary where do you go to see it? Should we just hop on the monorail and watch it from the Poly beach? We are staying at POFQ- are we allowed to go to the Poly beach...?

We've always watched it from the Poly boat launch (dock). It gets very close and the view is great. I've never seen it from any other spot.

Not to be a bummer, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see this water parade. Nice if you happen to be around it when it happens, but I wouldn't force it into my schedule. Just my opinion of course.

You'll be a little early for it at the Contemporary. It floats by at 10:00. It starts at the Polynesian at 9:00 at stops at various spots around the lagoon. It's cute. I have a sentimental reason for liking it. When we stayed at the Contemporary when the kids were little we always got a lagoon view room and hurried back from the parks to watch. It was our little "Disney good-night".

If you'd really like to see it, It sounds like you might finish your meal about 8:15 to 8:30. You can hop on the mono-rail and catch it at the dock of the Polynesian or if you'd be running to close, the dock of the Grand Floridian is 9:15.
I wouldn't miss something important to see it, but if you want something cute to do and have the time. I've tried to fit it in during our last trip and the upcoming trip in July, but staying at a non-Magic Kingdom resort makes it more difficult to fit in.

In my opinion the best place is the Poly beach.

The ABSOLUTE best place to watch the Water Pageant is from the rooftop of the Contempory resort. You get to see the Entire big picture of everything that is going on around WDW.
Take the elevator to California grill and then head outside. Chances are you will have it all to your self. You get to watch the barge come over from the WL and then watch it depart to the PR and GF. Not to mention you get to see that that annoying little boat that chases it around is actually a security vessel. The sound of the music from up there is unreal. It has a echo to it that is so Disney. And while your there, take in the fireworks show from the MK in the same breath if the timing is right. What can I say but this is cool, no wait, COOL!

I also have sentimental reasons for wanting to see this. When I was 8 we stayed at the Contemporary and we watched the pageant from a ferry or boat on the way back to the hotel. I fell asleep on my mom's lap after the last lighted float passed us. It is one of my favorite memories of my 1 and only childhood trip to WDW.
I want my kids to see it.
