GF and I have just returned from a trip to the World. Much to my dismay, I discovered that Electric Umbrella no longer offers their Roast Beef and Provolone sandwich. This was the one food item at Disney that I would get cravings for. Based off our recent experience, the service has gone downhill, as has the food. EU used to have the topping bar for your sandwich, but that is no more. Your burger has choice of Lettuce and/or Tomato. Pickles, Onion, etc. are not to be found. EU is always crowded and finding a seat is a matter of swooping in as a group leaves a table. Looks like we won't be eating there again.

How could they get rid of that great toppings bar. T:confused3 hat is the main reason I went there.

I used to love this place for a quick burger. Now, I'm not sure.

It used to be a faovirate quick service meal of mine.

It seems to be the way of the World these days. No more chocolate silk pie at Pecos Bills or fresh apple pie at Columbia Harbour House either (do I detect a dessert bias here?). It's enough to drive you crazy, especially when you crave that one delicious item for 2 or 3 months before a trip.

They probably got rid of the toppings bar because it was losing money. I personally have seen people take the lettuce and tomatoes and stuff off there and make salads for several family members. That wasn't how Disney intended it to be used, so they decided to remove the problem.

Yes, I've seen that too. As usual, some people try to get around the system and ruin things for the rest of us. But would it REALLY kill them to have onions and pickles available as options for those of us who like it? Lettuce and tomato is so bland...

Of course, pecos bills and cosmic ray's offer you even sauteed onions in addition to lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, relish, and sometimes even salsa!

Well that stinks....I had planned on lunch there with the kids on our Sept. trip. The kids won't care about the topping bar, but I hope the service can be decent at least. I will still give it a try I think and hope for the best. We are doing Coral Reef for dinner....can't wait!

I think Disney is trying to figure out just how little they can do and still get people to pay for it.

IKWYM....my saddest day was on our trip last October and we went to Columbia Harbour House to get the clam chowder bread bowl. We got the soup, but it was very thin and no more bread bowl....I was soooo disappointed!:sad1:

All of the fast food at Disney has gone downhill. Last month, every burger I had was pretty bad. The rolls were stale and the burgers were very dry.
Very disappointing.

I'm trying to figure out of there's anyone at WDW I can contact who will listen to my concerns about Electric Umbrella. Perhaps if enough people write to them or something, they will realize they are making guests unhappy. I probably should've mentioned it to Guest Relations that day, but I don't know if that would do any good.

Disney is chock full of people who will listen. Now, finding one who cares or will make a change...good luck on that. :)

:scared1: That was one of my fav quick eating places. I am very disappointed. Actually DH and I usually got some chicken tenders but I still hate to see things change. We would get some honey mustard dressing to dip them in. With no toppings bar ... that may be gone too! BLAH!

I've heard about the topping bar thieves ... kind of a bummer!

PS: Hoping they are still there but I did want to tell "dessert-happy" ... I mean "dis-happy" that the cannoli at Pinnochio Haus was pretty good. A nice sweet bite.

OH, I am really bummed about the EU. We went there for the first time at Christmas. We all LOVED IT!!!! The topping bar will certainly be missed. This was part of why we liked it so much.

Given our experiences, I bet whatever else you liked is gone too.

Not that it makes it right when people use it for reasons other than its intended, but seriously...Disney can more than afford to leave the toppings bars at their CS places. If the sale of turkey legs alone can pay for nightly Wishes, don't you think that the sale of all those burgers can cover the price for a couple heads of lettuce and some tomatoes?

Also not happy about the loss of that yummy beef sandwich. That, and the turkey & cheese bagel at the Liberty Inn were good, unusual sandwiches that we could count on in Epcot. Sunshine Seasons has some things that sound good, but nothing we sampled tasted good enough to put up with the noise & congestion that is pretty constant now in The Land. Soon it will be like the Studios for us---little that we like except for the popcorn wagon!

For weeks before our trip, I had been wanting that sandwich.... and then we made a special trip to Epcot JUST to eat at EU... I walk in, look at the menu, and stand there stunned for a few seconds...

:sad2: Oh, that's not good at all. We enjoyed EU last December. Looks like we'll be avoiding it this December.

What next? Am I going to end up eating off-site like at Six Flags?
