hii im going into high school next year and i choose one of my electives as studio art!!!i love makeing things wat else is good just in case i do change my mind....plz help!!!!!!!!!

It really depends on the other courses your school offers. I can't exactly say, "oh, take this", when your school might not have it as an elective at all.

I'm getting all of my "core" classes out of the way in my freshman and sophomore year. My junior and senior are basically all electives.

Mmhmm, me too. I'm doing the majority of the req. stuff freshman and sophmore year, and then junior and senior year are mostly electives, with a few more required english and math courses.

But for now, my electives are few and far between. Just French and Band.

I'm in eighth grade. It looks like I'm going to take Spanish and marching band next year.

I'm still not sure myself.

I am taking all of my core classes too. But I might graduate early. I will only have an English class left for 12th grade, but I can take it at night school or something. I'm not sure what I'll do?

Next year though I will be taking:

American Literature
Algebra 2
Chemistry
The wars and tellings of the 19th century (history like)

As for electives:

Spanish
Yoga
Secondary Office Skills

Let's see, I am a sophomore now and my electives are Photography 1, Spanish 3A, Creative Writing, and Journalism which along with my academic classes make up a full schedule. Last year as a freshman I took Mixed Chorus to get rid of my art/music credit which I hated (that was before photo counted towards that credit...OF COURSE it didn't last year), Spanish 2A, and keyboarding/computer applications which, if your school offers it, you would be STUPID not to take.

ETA: Totally forgot about next year. I'm taking Spanish 4A, psychology, sociology, and women in history.

Next year I have double languages (english II, french II) double sciences and double maths. I'll finish calc. by the time I'm out of highschool, and I'll have taken every art class my school offers. I'm an artist and I want to teach art.

Next year isn't too open for electives, either.

Only electives I'm taking are... French III, Band(?), and Drivers Ed (one semester). But I definately have to take Drivers Ed.

And I have like 8 billion req. stuff. Chemistry, Geometry, West & Non West Civ, English II. Oh, and gym.

Junior year the only core class I know I'll be doing is algebra II, and I *think* american lit. Then some other science and history classes, which are required. Doing much more english electives, like creative writing or something, in addition to French IV and band. Oh yeah, thinking of doingg Psych this year. AP classes?

Senior year I don't really have planned out. Probably do precalc to appeal to colleges, and then some more english and history classes. French V if I can stand it, and possibly band. And I should take some AP classes. I probably should do a business/computer class either junior or senior year.

Sorry, just thinking out loud here. :p

I think at the high school I'm going to you're only offered electives in junior and senior year. The only choice you really make the first two years:
Whether you want to do history or not right away.
Whether you are continuing in french or not.
And something about Tech, Gym, Music, Art... about which ones you take and when.

We have req's every year of high school, so we get to pick electives every year.

Freshman year I took:
Foods
Dance
Health
Gym

Sophomore year I took:
Human development
Gym
Strategies for Success: Math (to improve my MCAS scores. it sucked but it helped because my math score was nearly perfect!)

This year I took:
Culture & Conflict: USA
(I took an extra science, so only room for 1 elective)

Next year there's a lot more...less req's
Nutrition & Fitness
Psychology
Sociology
Theories of Violence
Gym
World Literature

We have one semester of health class, and one semester of gym. then no more of either for the rest of highschool.

Right now I'm taking a journalism elective and a film class. Journalism is basically just writing for the school newspaper and in film we watch and make films (big shocker, I know  ). I took a music class last semester, and I really miss that class now.

Right now I'm in Spanish I and Band as electives. I also take tennis, but a PE credit is required, so it doesn't really count.

Next year, I'm definitely going to take Spanish II, Health, and Speech. Those classes (and Spanish I) are required so they have to be taken for me to graduate. Plus, I have to take four core classes each year.

As for choosing electives, think about what you want to do when you get older. If your school has any classes that you can take that correspond with what you want to do, take that class.

In my school, there are basically only 4 electives for grade 8 and 9's that we must take, just for us to see what we like. The grade 8 course is exactly the same as the grade 9 course; you get to pick two electives in grade 8 and two in grade 9, so all four are covered within the first two years. After that, we can specialize in whatever we want to.

The four electives are: Foods & Fashion, De-Tech, Art & Drama, and Info-Tech. After grade 8 and 9, the courses are split up, so for example, instead of De-Tech (which covers everything), you would be able to take one or more of the following courses: Jewelry Making 10, Woodshop 10, Drafting 10, Metalwork 10, Electronics 10, or Filming & Editing 10.

I personally, think that if you have a career in mind, you should pick an elective that you might need, or want to take, to strengthen your skills in that field. I wouldn't just take a course for no reason, especially if I was only taking it as a 'slacker class'.

next year, we have to take one elective. we cant take spanish or french as an elective.......they are required.........but we only have to choose one......;)

I have one phrase of advice...and listen very carefully...

Make SURE to take ALL the classes you need to graduate FIRST and get those over with!! I CANNOT stress that enough lol. I remember as a new freshman in high school, I wanted to take all the fun electives. Last year I was stuck with Personal Finance and this year I am stuck with Child Development. Now, the classes aren't bad...they were both jokingly easy, but believe me when I say I would have MUCH rather taken an English elective or an art elective. I had to use electives on required classes.

This year is better :) I am stuck with Child Development...but the class is SO easy, it's like having the knowlegde you do now, and going back to the first grade. It's a joke, really. Friday's are dedicated to be our "game day". We will either play games or watch movies. Okay, I'm a senior...this is insanely awesome for me rofl!!!!! I don't have to work my butt off in a class! :rotfl: The only other required classes were an English class (I chose Honors Lit and Comp) and American Government. My electives this year are Shakespeare (yay! lol), 20th Century History, Drawing I (I switched to the class from French IV. I didn't need either and art is something I have a huge interest in, but have been deprived of during my high school career due to conflicting schedule issues), PE 11/12 (I could have either taken it last year, this year or both. I choose this year lol), and Forensic Science.

take a foreign language.
drama is always fun, just make sure you hold your head high. people are after throats without a second thought in that "business".

Here, everyone takes 4 years of science, 4 years of math, 4 years of English, 4 years of history, and 4 years of foreign language. It's a very fast-track school, and lots of people end up taking AP. It is extremely frowned upon not to take 4 years of all the core classes because our school has a reputation for 'excellence.' If you go to my school, and you don't do that type of thing, it doesn't look great to the colleges. It really depends on the school because the counselours list the relative difficulty in comparison to other schools. We rank highly.
That leaves 4 semester blocks each year for electives. That makes 16, five of which are taken up with gym and health. I use another 6 (started in sophmore year) to take French in addition to Spanish. With the final five, I do art/business because it's required to graduate.
