because that's not what canada is all about - apparently we are a "walk all over us and we'll thank you for it" country.

it really pisses me off. we bow down to the u.s. is so many things. just look what happened with the soft lumber and meat a couple of years back. u.s. got their nickers in a knot because we were making a profit on soft wood so they found a way to stop that. then 1 cow on 1 farm was found to have madcow and all meat was banned from the u.s.

they asked or rather told us to dismantle and destroy the Arrow and we did.

it's like being kicked in the teeth by an older brother and mom and dad don't do anything about it.

it's about time we stand up and say enough is enough - stop hitting me.

I don't know why someone doesn't call their bluff, if you honestly think life would be better, see ya! Oh by the way get your own health care, money and social services. Take your share of the debt and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

can i just ask why some people get so angry if others don't vote?

isn't that what this country is all about - you have the right to vote or not vote for whoever you want?

why does it bug people that others don't vote - they are choosing not to vote - it's their choice they have that right.

I'm not angry that 41% of eligible voters decided not to exercise their democratic right to choose a candidate to represent them in Parliament. But I do wonder why they didn't. Are people disinterested, uninformed, too busy? Personally I feel it is our duty to be interested, become informed, and take the time to vote. I had no idea what the Green Shift platform the Liberals were running on was about but I went to their website and read what it said. I checked out all the parties websites and platforms to see where they were coming from. I certainly didn't agree with many of them and don't necessarily agree with everything that the party I voted for stands for. But I made a decision based on who closely believes what I believe.

To put this in a different perspective I was reading A Day of Remembrance from the Veterans Affairs Canada website, and found this quote:

We often take for granted our Canadian values and institutions, our freedom to participate in cultural and political events, and our right to live under a government of our choice. The Canadians who went off to war in distant lands went in the belief that the values and beliefs enjoyed by Canadians were being threatened.

As the years go by we become farther removed from the wars that some of our fathers, grandfathers or great-grandfathers fought in. Still, we can't ever forget that part of the reason they did what they did was to defend our right to choose our government.

This is exactly why I vote even when I really don't want to. I was lucky enough to know my great-granddad who was in WW1. He didn't talk much about it but I was under 10 and gave me the kid version of the reason the war happened (bad people hurt our friends and we went to help them) .

My grand dad was in WW2 and was a POW for a while and never talked about it. He would get very angry if I bothered him too much about it, but as a teenager you think whats the big deal. As I have become older, I now understand that war is an ugly thing and just because there is no physical damage there is always mental damage one way or another. They did what they thought was right for us and our country.

For that, I am forever grateful.
