Election irony

I've always equated democrats being the party that more helps the lower income and republicans being the party of the rich and affluent which I believe are pretty common beliefs. If you look though at the maps of the which candidates won what state you'll find generally that the republicans won the poorer states and the democrats won the richer states. Just an observation.

My mom has a high school education and she works very hard but she has always lived paycheck to paycheck. She isn't religious or socially conservative. She has no special affinity for the wealthy. For some reason she just "can't vote Democrat". I completely disagree with her but I respect her decision.

I've noticed that a lot of the poorer Republicans are voting on the 3 G's: guns, gods, gays. They aren't actually researching the candidates, but are so hepped up on these issues that it affects their choice. My husband and I were just talking about how confusing this is. You would think that they would want the President that will fight for them instead of one giving tax breaks to the weatlhy.

I am a Detroit transplant to the bible belt for about 23 years now. I lived in Greenville, SC for 20 years, about 2 miles from Bob Jones University. I completely understand your feelings!

I voted, and once again watched my state turn red. That's ok, I voted blue knowing it wouldn't count. But the end results turned out OK.

You don't go to my church or hang with my family obviously! Abortion is ALL my family cares about!!!! The church, same thing and the gay rights issues.

Others outside the church I don't hear that much from really. For me, those issues are non issues.

Hey, I live in Claxton, about 60 miles west of Savannah, and I gave up my heathen ways a long time...well, a while back...mostly, anyway.

In Northren Michagan especially the issue of guns gives the republicans strong support.
Of course most of my Catholic friends have strong feelings against abortion.
Both of those issues were brought up when I talked with friends and family .

Well, that's the thing. I'm one of the less-wealthy McCain supporters, and I don't want anything from anyone else. I just want what I earn. And yes, abortion was a top issue for me.

I see the same thing with a lot of women especially that only vote democrat because of the abortion issue. Frankly, one issue voters drive me crazy, but I understand everyone has their hot button issue.

Most republicans I know, middle-class or poor (because I don't really know any RICH people), vote that way because they want to take care of themselves, and don't want the government doing it. And, yes, the gun issue is big too.

Myself, I mostly vote republican, but I'm actually more Libertarian at heart.

Not really. The Republicans are the self-proclaimed freedom loving, personal rights and responsibilites, minimalist government party.

The Democrats are the self-proclaimed party looking for solutions to make our country a better place to live.

We are a nation pretty much split down the middle between the two parties with the Democratic Party being larger, but the Republican Party being more focused.

If you drill down into the voting record of each state, you will basically see the same pattern throughout the country, population centers blue, everywhere else red.

The political spectrum in this country, left to right, is fairly narrow in my opinion. On most issues, it is hard to tell the difference between the two major parties.
