Anyone been to the El Captain Theatre operated by Disney in Hollywood? It looks beautiful.

We are doing a side trip to Universal studios, and it seems like a quick drive to El Captain for an evening showing of Narnia.

Anyone been? Any recommendations?

I see there are VIP seating and General seating - what would be the difference?

Thanks

I have been a number of times. It is great! We always do the VIP tickets. You get a free popcorn, drink and no waiting in line. Usually, the line goes down the street a while before the show starts. VIP guests are let in first. Just make sure you know what time they will be letting in general admission folks. The best seats are front row in the second level!

Thanks - do you know if you can purchase them at guest services at DL, or if you have to use the Internet booking? (I'm cheap and trying to save the service fees)

As far as I know, you can not buy tickets at Disneyland. You can call the box office and order tickets 1-800-DISNEY6. I am not sure if you will be charged the fee that way or not.

Thanks - there is 8 of us - so we are looking at $16 in service fees - trying to save a buck.

I was just going through the system. I think the $2.00 is part of the $22.00 ticket price. I did not see any added charges when I did a "fake" purchase. You can print tickets at home or pick them up at the box office for no extra fees.

You are so right.

The VIP is the way to go when you count in the cost of the popcorn and drink and not having to have the hassle of being in a line-up.

Thanks for your help!

We were just there this week to see Narnia and it was wonderful! Its well worth the $22 per person to not stand in line for an hour, plus the popcorn and soda and assigned seats. The pre-show was wonderful, make sure you get there in plenty of time to hear the organist play disney tunes!

There is a display of props from the movie in the basement. And then go next door to the Disney Soda Fountain and have a Narnia sundae. :-)

For 8 people...look into a group discount. I think 8 was the smallest number for that.

Have a great time. Spend lots of time looking at all the details. The carvings in the "real" wardrobde were quite fun to look at.

Can you tell us where you can park if going to the El Captain?

Thanks!

We actually found a spot on the street the block behind the theatre...by the track and field area of Hollywood High School. But there was a parking garage on the corner...and many many pay lots all around. There is also the valet parking at the Roosevelt...about a block from the theatre is you just didnt want to deal.

We did the VIP tickets and it was great!

Fantastic seats - no waiting in line and nice popcorn and bottled drink.

The pre-show was a nice surprize - I won't spoil it, but it was very Disney.

Check out the living statue in the front lobby - just as we stood there debating if it was real, it moved towards us.

As far as parking, we parked in the parkade right across Hollywood Drive from the Theatre (wish I could remember the name, but I just followed the signs -it was brightly light and well patrolled so felt very safe). The rate was $10, but got validated at the Theatre and it ended up costing only $2.
