I know where to come when I need advice!
1. I start a new job Monday
2. My last two days of work at my old job are today and tomorrow
3. I take care of challenged people, mentally and physically
4. I am sick

I dont want to call off because I dont want the co. to think Im... screwing them
I dont want to go because I dont want to get the people sick...

what do I do?

Call off. If they don't know what kind of person you are by now, this willnot change their opinion. IMO

Second.

depending on the illness...

if it is something airborne, you can wear a mask (that's what we do if we have a cold at clinicals). If it is a tummy bug (therefore contact would spread it), just be diligent in handwashing...maybe wear medical gloves when touching somebody.

that is the ethical/moral answer.

If you are confident that you are not being depended on, like a substitute is available or whatever, then some people would choose to just lose the reference and call off.

Go to a doctor and get a written excuse!!!

Is there a walk-in clinic that you can visit?

With this, you have credibility and understanding.
Now is not the time to just make a phone-call to call-off and expect them to automatically trust you.

Sorry to hear that you are sick at such a time!!! :grouphug:

I would call in and offer to do whatever you can from home if you are feeling up to it. You don't want to be your last "gift" to your former co-workers to be a sickness.

I wouldn't bother with a doctor's note.

Denae

its a cold, its a fever, sore throat stuffy head, runny/stuffy nose kinda thing. i thought about going to the Dr but i stink and dont feel like moving. LOL Guess I get lazy when Im sick....

Sounds as though you really need some rest to get over this. Listen to your body, if it doesn't want to move, there might be a reason for that.

Call in, and don't feel bad.

well I called in and of course my boss didnt answer his cell phone, so I am waiting for his call. I asked if anone wanted my last two days, and told him if he wanted a drs note I would get him one. I do feel bad, but I do start a new job on Monday at the hospital and I dont want to start off feeling like poop

You are doing a favor to your clients, and their families. Take care of yourself, and get better before Monday!

For what it is worth, I don't ever call in sick. I will go to work and let my boss send me home. If I feel really bad I will tell him if I only feel a little bad I will just go on to work and see if anyone notices. That is what I learned from my parents. I don't ever remember my dad calling in sick.

I wish it was that easy, where I work is a private residential home and my boss only comes in once a week ontuesdays, so i am alone and noone can send me home

I wouldn't want to spread it to others either. My only thought was, where I work, if you don't finish out your notice, you lose you accumulated vacation time that you would normally get paid for when you leave.
Hope you feel better.

I would definitely do what you did and call in sick. You can't help being sick. BUT, I would go to the doctor for sure. You said that you're starting a new job on Monday. You may need to get some medicine and have at least a couple of days for it to work, so you don't start your new job this way.

My husband never calls in sick either. In his line of work no one does.

Please, please, please STOP doing that. If you're sick, stay home and get better. Don't take it to work so everyone else gets sick too. It doesn't sound like you abuse the sick policies, so please use them. This also goes for kids, parents, if the kid is sick, they gotta stay home and get better! I hate getting sick, I hate my kids getting sick and there are some people who fear a small cold due to other complications. STAY HOME IF YOU'RE SICK!

No kidding. It isn't a moral high road to contaminate other people.

As a former classroom teacher, I hated seeing kids come into school sick. Odds were, somebody (including me) would be catching what they had. Our school secretary NEVER missed work no matter how sick she was. She acted like it was terrible that anybody else did, and you almost hated to call in sick because of her attitude. ;)

DH (who is in the classroom) has a "thing" about missing work. I've told him that he isn't doing anybody a favor by taking his germs to work. That's why you have sick days and a sick leave policy. :confused3

If you would have called in sick had you not been leaving the company, I'd go ahead and call in sick now. JMHO. Hope you feel better soon, and good luck with the new job! :wave2:
