Eisner is leaving Disney

Eisner is leaving Disney
Finally!!! Unfortunatly it's not effective immediatly!!

Haven't read the press release yet. Don't know if they have announced a sucessor or not.

Kevin Yee at MiceAge had a note MiceAge 9/7/2004 (3/4 of the way down the page) about Bob Iger being a possible replacement to Eisner.

Here is a quote from Kevin's article:
"In a 1996 memo to directors, Eisner said that if he was ‘hit by a truck,’ he might suggest Iger as a replacement. ‘He will not get the company into trouble,’ Eisner wrote. ‘He is not an enlightened or brilliantly creative man, but with a strong board he absolutely could do the job.’"

and then this observation from Kevin:
"Here’s one conspiracy theory: ... If Iger follows Eisner, and then Iger fails miserably, guess who looks great by comparison?"

You can read the article and draw your own conclusions.

This is hubby of newtodisney.

Maybe now Disney will focus on doing what is does best, instead of just trying to branch off into new ventures.

My impression of what Disney should focus on is Theme Parks and animated movies. Drop music and other movies.

Nominate me for the next President and CEO of Disney. BTW, I will save the company a lot of money. I will work for 1/4 of the money ;):bounce:

It about time for this man to go! He thinks that he owns Disney and does not care about what his stockholders think. 19 years is too long for any leader of a publicly traded company. He would have done us all a favor, including his own family considering all the stock they own, had he left several years ago.

Bob Iger is not the person to take over the leadership of this wonderful company. He is not creative and manages from directly spreadsheets. If Magic and creativity is what we hope for from Disney then Bob Iger is not the person to bring it to us. We can only hope that Roy Disney is successful is changing the board of directors and they bring some creative talent to the table...

Imagine for one minute if Walt had managed from spreadsheets rather than taking risks on his creative instincts. There would certainly be no Disneyland, Walt Disney World or Disney Cruise Line. Just my personal thoughts....

Michael Eisner is a snake and I'm not one bit sorry to see him go, but remember if it wasn't for him we wouldn't have DCL.

He was the mastermind behind Disney building their own ships.

So he does have 1 teeny tiny good point.:hyper:

In his early years, Eisner was one of the best things to happen to Disney. In the latter years, he has been one of the worst. I too am glad to see him go. It will be interesting to see who they put in his place. I know there have been rumors of Eiger, but I wonder if they would consider Roy Disney as well.

We are not sorry to see Eisner go either. Our only Disney away from Disney was shopping at the Disney Store. What a disappointment they have become.

It's going to be a long two years!

As "The Nylons" put it...na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, GOODBYE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gee, can you tell that my husband and I are excited about Eisner stepping down?

In my opinion, the CEO position at Disney should never be anyone but a Disney.

There are several family members that I believe would make a wonderful leader of that company or at the very least president of the board of directors. Once Disney relinquished their say in the company, it had no choice but to branch off into other avenues.

If not a Disney, then it should be a loooong time employee that knows and loves the vision that Walt created.

I am probably in the minority on this but a Disney family member as the CEO may not be the wisest move. It may benefit from a PR point, but the CEO should be a business person and if there is a disney family member that fits the bill, great!!!

As for the Disney, the corporation, it is an entertainment company. Granted some of the investment like ABC and some film studions is questionable, but still IMHO depending on just theme parks may hurt the company.

I think Eisner had a vision, executed it but lost some very good creative and executive talent along the way that hurt the Disney overall. Remember he was brought in to grow the comapny and boy did it grow!!!

Please no flame, but I have read and seen many companies hurt but leaders that are there because of name!

It was never the same after Jeffrey left......and when Frank Wells died? A LOT of things died with him....

Oh, geeze Dave, this bears repeating, so glad to see you back.

Hmmmmm! Wonder where all these negative voices were 15 yrs ago when the stock was going up up up and Eisner could do no wrong?????
Hindsight is great, yes, I question some of his decisions and direction the company has taken, BUT he has most definitely been a booster for the Disney Company in a very visible way, and many CEO's are not even known by the shareholders.
I really believe that the Eisner bashing is doing no one any good and certainly not the Disney Company. All the negative comments sound more like the political arena these days!
I doubt that ANYONE would intentionally bring down a company when their own reputation and $$$$$ were at stake.

Read the fine print..he is not planning on leaving just stepping down from his current position into another board appointed position....which would be tragic for disney. Everyone needs to help get Michael out and keep him out.
