Eisner brings car show to MGM

A ride for the little guys would be great too. The " too young for TofT and RNR set " really do not have a ride at MGM. There is Little Mermaid and Bear shows and both are good. Also the playground but those do not fill a day. Another show of any kind will not fill that need.

I saw the show Moteurs Action at Walt Disney Studios in Paris last December. It sucked, plain and simple.
It was about 45 minutes long, about 30 minutes of which seemed to be CMs jibbering to the crowd and trying to get them excited, asking for volunteers, etc., the standard stunt show schtick.
There seemed to be about 15 minutes of fancy driving with four to eight cars driving in formation, and some motor cycle work, which was impressive. But, it was like one of those bad car commercials on TV. The portion of the show with the Jet Skis, which is the highlight, had already been taken out because of the danger: performers had been hurt. Other stunts had also been removed. You know all of this because they show you a film at the end of what you've just seen, and there was stuff in the film that looked much more interesting than anything they'd actually done. I think Moteurs Action would be just as boring in Florida.
Of course, if the suggestion that in doing this they would in turn close the Indy stunt show and finally build the Indiana Jones Adventure in Florida, well, I think we'd all welcome that in a heartbeat. But with ToT and RnR drawing so many people, does it seem likely that they'd spend another $125 million for an Indy ride at the studio? Doesn't seem likely at the moment: EPCOT needs it more.

MGM has plenty of shows? Let's see, the Backlot is going away, Hunchback is gone, the ABC Studios sits empty, Sounds Dangerous is lame, Beauty & the Beast is a shadow of its former self and it is sometimes rumored that the Indiana Jones stunt show is going away. So a lot has been lost or isn't very good.

That's not my opinion - I thought it was very good, and would make the Indy stunt show seem very tame by comparision. The driving was dramatic and conveyed a sense of real danger, unlike the Indy show which is clever and funny, but does not have that same "on the edge" feel to it. I agree that there was too much dialogue in between the set piece action, but that's partly because in Paris it's a bilingual show (French & English). Just imagine how dull the Indy show would be if all the dialogue was repeated in Spanish as well as English.

Although having two stunt shows in the same park may be a little bit odd, the Moteurs: Action! show from Paris would make a good addition to any theme park.

Regards

Rob

I was going to do a separate post on this, but d-r took my thought, namely, that this is the first step in closing down the indy stunt show and replacing it with a clone of the DL and TD' indy ride. now is there anyone out there that would not make that trade ?!?

Planogirl! B&tB is a 'shadow of its former self'? Please tell me you were just padding your argumentative evidence with this one! :o

As for the car stunt show...It certainly wouldn't be my first choice & I do agree with those who speak of the ongoing cost of such a show. This flies in the face of recent Disney decision making...But still it was Rasulo's baby so who knows.

IMO, the simple (but expensive) import of 'Indy' from DL and the addition of a HoND replacenment would bring the Studios back to greatness. Come on Jay! Go for it!!!

i would trade indy for a new stunt show somewhere else in the park and then an indy ride where the current indy show is now...ONLY ONLY ONLY IF THE RIDE WAS MADE to its FULL potential and not half@$$'d and or 8 years to build

A car stunt show? Yuck!

Looks like MGM is turning into a half-day park!

Beauty and the Beast | Indiana Jones are two great shows for new visitors.

OK, I'll concede the Beauty & the Beast thing. :) It's been a while for me but I didn't care for it last time and others have told me it seemed not so good any more. I know, we're probably all tired of it.

As for Indiana Jones, we never miss it but the rumors of it leaving keep coming up. Believe me, I was in no way Dising Indy. ;)

I still wish that they'd do something with the ABC Theater.

They have to renovate Star Tours. It's passed its' prime.
As for bringing Indy over, it sounds like a simple solution but it would be better if they enhanced it along the way.

There's Beauty and the Beast, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Playhouse Disney and Indiana Jones as stage shows. There's Who Wants to be a Millionaire as a game show. There's Fantasmic as a nighttime show. And there are Sounds Dangerous and MuppetVision. That makes eight attractions where you watch something happening on a stage or on a screen. Not all of the above are good, and I would hate to see any of them close, but the fact is that there are only three actual rides to go along with these (I don't consider the Backlot Tour a ride in the traditional sense; it's a guided tour that happens to use a tram-like vehicle), two of which have height restrictions and last less than three minutes each. So yes, in my opinion, the park has more than enough shows when compared to its lineup of rides.

I saw the Moteurs show last July in Disney Studios in Paris. I was VERY impressed. My friends dragged me in there, not being very interested, but to my suprise, I enjoyed it greatly. I don't know if it will fit in MGM, but at least I know its a quality attraction.

Just to point out, I go to MGM about every 2 weeks. I am not big on shows, so I only see B&tB and Fantasmic mostly. I don't really know what my point is, but another ride in MGM would be good. The other poster that said we needed an all ages ride was right....I just don't know how that would happen. Imagineers would have to rack their brains for a while to get a quality attraction to put in MGM.

Why? Its not lack of ideas or plans for great attractions that keep them from being built.

Just to add so more fuel to the fire this was from a recent Rusulo interview
Q: Going beyond this year's new products, the special summer package prices, Mickey's PhilharMagic and Mission Space, what's next? We've heard you plan to add a new stunt show that's been successful in Disneyland Paris at the Disney-MGM Studios.
A: In two years, we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Disneyland. We've expanded that to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our company's involvement in the theme park business. While the celebration will be anchored at Disneyland, we will reflect our celebration around the world. Some of the ideas that we've had for Walt Disney World do involve bringing attractions from other parks.

Q: So the stunt show at Disney-MGM Studios is a distinct possibility?
A: Absolutely.

Q: How about the Soarin' over California attraction from California Adventure, somehow modified to fit into new surroundings at Epcot?
A: Soarin' is also a possibility that we've looked at. But we're still in the formative stages of our planning.

Correct me if I'm wrong Disnsyncey, but I think what you might have been trying to convey is the current level of frustration that Imagineers have with regard to getting projects approved by corporate management. Is that what you meant when you said that they would have to rack their brains to get a quality attraction at MGM? Because quite frankly, based on what we've heard, and as Europa eluded to, there are many ideas in place. It's just that corporate has been rather tight fisted over the past 5 years and doesn't easily give approval to these larger types of big budgeted attractions. Mission Space and the recently announced Expedition Everest do show promise however. Hopefully these are signs that the tide is turning.
