Hi Guys, I'm hoping you can help me here. I have two EHDs. One is assigned the letter F and the other G. Well suddenly my passport that has always been F is showing as G. All I can think of is that DD plugged her phone via a USB cable to connect to itunes when my passport wasn't plugged in and it assigned the phone to F. Now it will only assign the passport to G and LR of course won't recognize it. I tried plugging in the other EHD (I don't have it cataloged it's my back up of my back up) and the computer assigned it F. ARRRGGGHHH! I don't want to have to re-import my entire catalog, it will take all day and p*ss me off! Can anyone tell me if there's anyway to "reset" things back to normal? I'm using Windows XP.

Never mind, I fooled it into reassigning the letters. Going to post my solution in case someone else has the same problem.

Made sure I had a memory card in so it would stay H.
I plugged the EHD that was assigned F (supposed to be G) in and of course it came up F.
I borrowed DH's EHD, plugged it in and it came up G.
Then I unplugged the EHD that came up F and plugged in my passport (while leaving DH's plugged in [coming up G]) and it came up F. :cheer2:

I guess sometimes you have to craftier then the machine, lol.

FYI in the future you can change a drive letter without messing around with a work around like you did. Just go to start>run>diskmgmt.msc

There you can change drive letters easily. Just don't do it to drives that have programs installed on them as this can screw up shortcuts and target directories.

Thanks so much, I will tuck that info away.:goodvibes

Also, even if you change drive letters, all is not lost. If your catalog file has moved, you should be able to just re-open it on the new drive. If the location of your photos has changed, you can just right-click the folder in Lightroom and "Find missing folder" and it will find it and you won't lose any settings. If you move individual photos around (I usually do, I have "process" folders and when done, move them into numbered folders, like "00001-01000"), just right-click one of the photos that has been moved and click Show in Explorer. It will say that it can't be found, you then browse to the new location and it will automatically find any other "missing" photos in that new folder.
