Egg hunt at DL today

We did the egg hunt today -- it was VERY popular. The line for buying egg maps never seemed to let up (we left around 1:30 and it was outside the store and around the corner). I thought I overheard the CM saying they were limiting it to three maps per person, but I might have misheard. A couple were a little challenging, but not too much.

Last year they basically let my kids pick which prize they wanted, but they were not very lenient this year. They let my DS pick again (blindly) when I said we already had the first one. But they would not let my cousin swap.

We went to the Spring Round-Up at BTMBBQ. They had Roger Rabbit, Easter Bunny, Rabbit from Pooh, and Pluto with rabbit ears. Unfortunately, we really wanted to see Minnie and Mickey in their springtime outfits, but they weren't coming out until later and we couldn't wait. Oh well. Something to look forward to next year!

There were plenty of ceramic mugs at Starbucks as well.

The Starbucks mug as not (supposedly) a limited edition item, so they should have them for the foreseeable future. They do seem popular, so they sell out quickly. They were re-stocked on Saturday (3/28), but I don't know how many they got in or how long those supplies will last. If you don't see them on the shelves, I would check back frequently throughout your trip because you never know when they'll be re-stocked.

We go to the parks Easter Sunday, really hoping they still have maps available my kids are really looking forward to doing the egg hunt. Do you think we could get to the park early (before rope drop) and stand in line for a map so as not to kill part of our day in line, or are they further into the park so that wont work? We are open to either park but are leaning towards CA for Easter. Any input? Thank you!

The maps are sold at several shops in both parks. The DL map can only be purchased in DL and the DCA map can only be purchased at DCA. I remember seeing the maps for sale at Oswald's and Elias & Co on Buena Vista Street. Assume they still have them in stock, I don't think the lines will be super long to purchase the map.

It's worth noting that last year, they did sell out of the maps before Easter. You can find copies of the map online and print them yourself before you go so you'll have that if they've sold out (and will at least know where to look for the eggs). But you won't get the prize (a Disney character egg)...

I just explained in the Egg-stravaganza thread - http://www.disboards.com/threads/eg...-the-hunt-has-begun-spoilers-allowed.3393648/ - that the maps sold out several days before Easter last year, first in Disneyland and then in California Adventure the next day. (I also named all of the locations to purchase maps in the first post of that thread.)

The maps come with character egg stickers. If the maps are printed out in advance, there won't be character sticker sheets with them. Kids like stickers. So they wouldn't get the stickers or the prize at the end. But the maps have the clues for where to find the eggs, which would come in handy for any of the slightly harder-to-spot targets. Most of the eggs will be easy to spot because they are hidden in the same 'types' of locations as they were hidden last year and in 2013, and the hunt is designed for young children to be able to find the eggs easily -- not necessarily in the same locations, but the same types of spots.

I think there will undoubtedly be more maps available to buy this year, but they still could sell out if the number of people doing the hunt increases dramatically from last year's numbers.

Thank you both. I will print out the map, but agree that the kids like stickers and really hoping they made more this year in anticipation of more people wanting to participate. I will also let the kids know there is a good chance there may not be maps left when we get there.

Totally printing these so we can look for them if the maps are sold out. I'll make it a family contest and come up with a fun prize. Thanks for links to the maps! So this ends on Easter, right? So if Easter Sunday is our first day in the parks we have to get through both that day?

Yes.

The way it's supposed to go is that the maps are sold while supplies last. That means that if they don't sell out they will be sold through April 5th and not beyond that date. The character eggs that are to be found on the hunt probably come down or begin to come down right after Easter -- I don't know how many of them come down at once, so I would not wait beyond 4/5 to try to find them. The Egg-stravaganza officially ends on 4/5.

If you manage to get actual maps (not the print outs), you have until April 30th to redeem them for the prize (character egg).

As I explained in the Egg-stravaganza thread, if you don't make too many stops to do anything else and you do both hunts in one day, the whole thing should take no more than a few hours (maybe 4 hours) in total. Most likely, though, people will stop to eat, ride rides, chat, shop, rest, etc. So you will have to weave the egg hunting in between your other activities, or vice versa. But most of the eggs are very easy to find, so it's not like you'll be searching for a needle in a haystack in most cases.

Ok, so if we do it all Sunday we don't have to run back to the shop to redeem until later during our trip. Are people just doing this as they tour the park or is this the kind of thing that needs more specific attention? Is there a link to a completed cheat sheet? maybe I should save that to my phone in case we need to look it up! LOL!

Truthfully, there are really only a few eggs that might be kind of hard to find. Most were very obvious and as long as you were in the right place, you can find them. If you want to know which gave me a hard time, send me a PM/conversation.

If you get an actual map, you can get the prize right at the time you buy the map. You don't need to do the hunt or even apply the stickers to claim the prize -- you need only to buy a map to get the prize.

Today I posted links to a few different blogs in the Eggs-plaining the Egg-stravaganza thread, with the most recent being a link to the AllEars blog (that one appears to show where every egg is, from what I could see, but I scrolled through without looking at the eggs) -- http://www.disboards.com/threads/eg...spoilers-allowed.3393648/page-3#post-53352870 -- and they probably name the exact locations too -- so you can use that as your cheat sheet.

Oh that would be the easiest! Then you wouldn't have to go back into the store. Thanks!

I will say, though, that it was very satisfying for my kiddos to take the completed map back to the store to claim their prize.

We mostly spied the eggs organically as we moved through the parks. There was one that a CM gave us a clue for. But none were really difficult at all. Totally fun, though! Enjoy.
