We have an acre and a half fenced yard. Our dogs are being attacked no matter what we try...frontline, flea/tick collar, advantix

Please tell me there is a way to rid our yard of these pests...

Thanks so much:cutie:

We had a bad summer of it here in the houston area awhile back. We had Frontline on our dogs, and they were still getting on the dogs. We went to Home depot or Lowe's and got SevenDust concentrated and sprayed the whole yard with it. Then we went to the vets and got tick collars. They were about 19.00 each to also help the problem. Our vets told us that they just had an outbreak season here in houston for some reason that year. We never had anymore problems with the ticks after that.

Borax. Available in the detergent area. Sprinkle dry across lawn. Cheap and much safer then insecticides, which, BTW, are neuro-toxic for you AND your pets.

DIATOMACEOUS EARTH and other ideas gleaned from the magical book of everything:

Plant naturally-repelling plants. Plants with strong odors are great for repelling ticks and other bugs. Geraniums, mint, citronella and garlic have properties that ticks will stay away from. You can also purchase sprays that have the essential oils of these plants to spray on your clothing.

Create a natural barrier. Spreading gravel and wood chips is an excellent way to keep ticks out of your yard. Creating a barrier with diatomaceous earth is another way of deterring ticks from crossing into your yard. Diatomaceous earth is made of silicate shells that are ground into a fine powder. The shells have razor sharp edges that will cut through the outer shell of ticks.

Make patios and play areas tick-free zones. Keep these areas free of shrubs and grass. Be vigilant about removing debris and keeping edges mowed down in these areas.

Remove debris around your property. Piles of leaves and twigs are tick breeding grounds because they are moist and woody. Removing this debris will greatly decrease your chances of your lawn being infested with ticks.

We have chickens, so that theory doesnt work.... Well, maybe if we have hundreds of chickens, but we cant afford that!

Any other tips?? I may try the borax though....

Guineas are not chickens........ they are Guineas and it does work. They are famous for tick eating.

lime dust the yard about once a month

Avon original skin so soft does wonders on dogs an ppl....for ppl I found just a dab on wrist was usually enough for dogs I had very short haired dogs I rubbed about a teaspoon between my palms an back rubbed the skin so soft into their coats an skin usually had to use about a tablespoon but they was only 15 an 20 lbs. BE SURE TO START AT TAIL WORK TOWARDS HEAD THE FLEAS LOVE THE TAIL AREA TICKS LIKE EARS AN AROUND COLLAR ETC THE MOST BUT WILL ATTACH MOST ANYWHERE IF THEY CAN.

I used the skin so soft on the dogs all season about once a week.

Please be careful with Citronella. it is great to use around humans but for dogs the citronella candles can cause damage.

We used Naturalawn of AMerica and they treated our lawn for ticks and I believe what they used was Chrysanthemum based. I would check your local plant stores to see if they carry some sort of natural spray.
