Effect of fires on Legoland

I want to start first by saying that I totally acknowledge that my concerns about a disrupted theme park visit are utterly trivial in comparison to the situation being faced by locals in the Carlsbad area as they battle to save their homes. My thoughts are with those poor families and businesses. I hope they all stay safe and that this situation comes under control very quickly.

For those of you who aren't up with the news yet, here's a link:

Does anyone know if the LEGOLAND hotel was affected too?

Having accepted that my concerns are petty, on with my selfish post... :rolleyes1

Does anyone know what the policy is at LEGOLAND, or indeed at any theme park, in a state of emergency such as this? If the park is forced to close, are you usually offered a refund or a return visit?

We have two days booked in LEGOLAND in July, including a two night stay in the hotel. These have been booked and paid for. We are coming from New Zealand and 99% of our 3 week trip around California and British Columbia is booked and paid for. We have very little flexibility to change anything because of flights etc. Although I hope and pray, for the locals' sake more than my own, that this is a one-off and under control soon, I do selfishly worry what it could mean for our own plans. We would not be able to change our itinerary to come back another day.

From what I understand from the local news (and to clarify: I'm not in San Diego County, but am in Southern CA), Legoland the the hotel were not damaged by the fire. The actual fire area was at least 1 freeway exit south away (and a little more south of that). Legoland gave free tickets to all guests who were evacuated, good for return on any day (I think). The smoke is heavy, so in addition to the heat, I can't imagine that being at Legoland right now (and it has reopened) is much fun. Hope this helps.

The main problem, besides the unhealthy air quality, was the power interruptions. The local gas and electric company can shut off the power to area affected by these urban interface fires. The park was reopened the next day.
