EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM Input?

Saw on another post about a referb one....Price is right. I currently own a Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS This is my every day lens.
I also have a canon 85mm prime.
I shoot a lot of swim and diving photos. The 85 is good for indoor and my everyday lens has done a nice job with out door.
My kids are in marching band and I found last year I got nice pictures but would like a little more reach.
I do like to take pictures of birds and the deer that walk through my yard.

Do you think this lens would fill in for what my current two lenses can't do?

It's a decent lens. It's not outstanding by any means, but it's not horrible like the Canon 75-300. It would do a solid job for outdoor shooting during the day but it's still on the slow side. Even with IS you may come up a little short for indoors or night sports... but it really depends on how well the venue is lit and how far you want to push the ISO.

I am not an Canon shooter. But based on the speed of the lens you might be disappointed. The focal length will help you with what you say you want it for. At f 4 you will probably not be able to stop action for sports unless outside or inside in really good light, or use an unacceptable ISO.

I would save money to get a faster lens. Maybe a used 70-200 2.8.

Thanks! I decided to order it! Hopefully it will give me the reach I need and pictures I am happy with. The lighting for Band is actually pretty good at least for our home games. A few of the other fields not as good. Hopefully this will work!
