I was made redundant last Friday - and we go to Florida in October.

I am torn between paying the last £2000 next week as planned or whether I should wait off until the end of August when the balance is due just incase the job hunting does not go as well as I would like as I will need the money to get by.

I have three interviews lined up next week but it worries me that I could be joining a new company and so soon after taking 11 days off for a holiday.

I have checked my travel insurance and I am covered in the worst case senario

I just need a bit of loving I thinkg from you guys...

Difficult times and Disney should be the light at the end of the tunnel!

Sorry to hear this - we've been in the same situation more than once with my husband (been made redundant 3 times now!). We ended up having to borrow money from a relative our very 1st time to orlando. We've also been away on holiday and when we got back found out the company had gone into liquidation (an american company) so hubby only got 2 weeks pay and no redundancy pay from company or government due to it being an american company (different rules) - its a very difficult time.

Will keep fingers crossed that something comes out of your interviews. Don't be afraid to tell them you have a holiday booked - they should be able to honour it.

Good Luck :thumbsup2

I'm so sorry to hear about your redudancy. :grouphug:

It's a difficult one - I know that I would probably pay it off and go and have a blumin good time. My parents, even though i'm nearly 40:scared1: would advise me to cancel and save the money.

Good luck with the job hunting.

I hope you can go but if you cant just remember Disneyworld is not going anywhere:thumbsup2

Hope you get a job quickly

Most companies will honour pre-booked holidays, I know the place I work now said it wasn't a problem as did other places I went for interviews at :)

What a nightmare, think for most of us it is a big worry on and off over the last ten years. Always have that feeling of what if just before we pay for our final instalment. You'd hate to cancel and then get work and think why did I do it but even a holiday to WDW isn't worth losing your house etc for.

I really hope all turns out well and you find work that honours your holidays before the final payment is due.

Take care.

Ouch, I have great sympathy for you. My DW is a school teacher and was due to lose her job as the school was closing due to another being expanded under the govenment BSF programme. We lived under this cloud for the last year. It now looks like this is not happening so unlike most we are actually celebrating the new government cancelling the programme.

First of all congratulations on having three job interviews lined up alread. I've been searching for a job since early Jan and only managed to bag 7 interviews out of loads of applications. So you are doing something right already.

Have your holiday, you deserve it, you've worked hard all year. It will give you something positive to focus on whilst you continue your job search. Most employers will honour holidays booked. If they won't, then to be honest I wouldn't work for them.

Job hunting is all about finding the perfect fit between you and the employer. If they wouldn't honor my already booked holiday, then they are no match for me.

Good luck with the interviews.

Good Luck to you. DH is in a similar position, but his company trying more underhand tactics - very complicated and can't discuss further due to legal issues. We have bought a bit more time, and have decided to go on our holiday regardless. At the end of the day life is for experiencing!

Good Luck to you!

sorry to hear you got laid off, happened to me december 2009 we get married in orlando next month, and i faced same problem, to pay or not to pay. i decided to pay as soon as i got my redundancy payout. i just thought that if i did not get a job in time we might have used the money and not be able to go. was quite a stressful decision, but cant explian the relief when i paid for it and then there was no going back and something to look forward to at a time when we were down in the dumps. i also ordered some dollars at the same time. good luck with job hunting and if it takes a while dont let it get to you.

i started work on the 6th june and my new employer honoured my holiday to mallorca, and i went on the 12th june i think as long as you tell them at interview they should honour the hols, they might not pay you though.

Don't want to put a downer - so if you really want all points of view read on... otherwise - feel free to skip it...:goodvibes

am I the only one who wouldn't dream of spending thousands on a holiday if I had no job? That perhaps the money could be used for better things than a trip abroad?? If I had tons in the bank to tide me through bad times, then perhaps, but if I didn't and was job hunting, then no.

If I were an employer and had a choice - lets face it most will have LOADS of choice at the minute - we are in a recession - then I would choose someone who was willing to go that extra mile and carry on working for me instead of saying they already had holiday booked.

It is an employers market right now - lots of people chasing fewer and fewer jobs. As someone said, Disney will still be there....

No, you're not the only one. I wouldn't go on holiday if I didn't have a job either. I just couldn't enjoy myself properly as I'd be worrying about money all the time.

OP, I hope you get another job soon

Well, I had the most fantastic interview last week (at least I thought it went well)

I should hear next week if they want to see me again. I absolutely love the job and it is perfect for me - exactly what I want to do and they were fine with the Florida holiday too. One thing I am finding is that in my line of work (Marketing Manager) the positions are more senior and take some time for employers to make decisions a week for collecting CVs, a week for deciding who to interview, another week for interviews a second week for 2nd interviews..... just seems to be taking an age. I still have to remember I have two weeks before my employment terminates so am paid until 6th August. The balance is not due until 27th August so I have 5 weeks to secure a position.

Also with the summer holidays just started, I am already saving myself £140 a week in petrol and child care all the time I am not working.

Stressfull is an understatement at the moment but having only spent 5 weeks out of work in the last 14 years I remain positive :)

Thanks for all the support.

Fingers crossed that you get the job and are all able to take your disney holiday

Thanks for asking - I am still waiting for a job :(

I have 3 more interviews lined up over the next week and have transferred all the holiday money to my Mum's bank account - so it can't be spent and we know how we are financially.

Just need to remind myself to be patient and something will be along soon (or at least before 27th August so I can still go!)
