Last year, Janette was planning an educational program for kids one morning at MK. My 3 kids were going to do it, but then my DD was ill and we weren't sure we'd be able to go to WDW and backed out of the program, and I think that left the group with too few people and it had to be canceled.

Any idea if there are plans to do it this year? Hope so. Sounded like a wonderful program (I forgot what it was called, and don't have the link anymore), and we've got our fingers crossed that we don't have any problems this year. :D

Hi Mare,

Here's a link to the Youth Group kids programs. Disney Youth Group

Although it is designed mainly for school / scout / church type groups when I talked to them last year they indicated that any group could participate.

The part that makes it difficult for DIS-CON is that there is a minimium requirement of 10 kids and the programs have different age requirements so a mixed age group is hard to find a program for. You also have to sign up at least 6 weeks in advance.

I'm not sure of my DIS-CON plans this year but I know the girls won't be coming this year. Just won't be able to take the time out of school.

I'm hoping we can still do a program someday, they sound great. They used to offer them to individual kids but they have quit doing that :(

Thanks, Dan and Janette.

Janette, I felt SO BAD about last year, but at the time we were in limbo with the whole thing about taking the trip or not. It looked like such a great program, and I know you did a lot of work trying to put it together...I hated to see it get canceled, for all the kids and for YOU, as well as for my own. :(

Maybe someone else will organize it. :D :D :D I thought it might help my explanation to the teachers on why my kids are missing 5 days of school. :D

Ray, dear? Are you volunteering to get it rolling? :) :bounce:

Mare, without the 6 week limit and some of the other things that made it difficult we still would have been able to do it. I'm just glad that things worked out as well as they did for you.

I was wondering if it could be made a convention add-on. That way there wouldn't be the requirements with a regular youth group, instead of an entire group program it would be just the classes. The 10 people minimum might also be easier since it could be made an option with the DIS-CON package. I know this would make more work for the planners though.

That would be perfect for DIS-CON since many of the attendees have kids that have been to WDW more times and they especially would enjoy some of the how it works type classes.

I do not want to nix this for anyone.. but we have a lot on our plates getting this Convention together.. So my best thoughts would be to organize amongst yourselves, work around the planned events and go for it..

At this point, we are working on getting the adult/children events together, the ones we can do as a family or not, depending on whether you bring your children.

I've always thought that something special for kids would be a great idea. :D I hope this works out for those of you with kiddos. :)

Janette, since we aren't actually doing DIS-CON, an add-on to it wouldn't work for us, altho maybe it would for other people. It certainly would be wonderful if this program would work out, but I know that there were already tons of events, and therefore conflicts, last year, so I wouldn't be surprised if it just isn't do-able. For us, it would be the only event we'd have to fit into our schedule, but I would imagine most people will already be concentrating on fitting in all the other DIS-CON official events and side meets too. Oh well...I'll keep my eyes on the boards tho, just in case. It IS a wonderful idea you had!

You might be able to find a couple more people Mare, last time we had only 4 families but that was enough to make the 10. Actually we only had 9 but we were going to just pay the fee for one extra.

My girls would be interested but if I'm there at all it will be solo.
