Wondering if anyone has been to Canada Place to get a passport in the last 2 weeks or so.

What time did you arrive?
How long did you wait in line?

I am going to get our passports tomorrow, and I am wondering if I need to pack a lunch, take a chair and some books!

Any info would be great!
Thanks

Sorry I just seen this now but of course it is the next day and you have already been. I hope you didn't have to wait too long. My friend went 2 weeks ago and she was there for about 5-6 hours but she got there at like 6:30 in the morning. Anyhoo hope you didn't have to wait too long.

Thanks for replying...was hoping someone would. Ours are expiring and we'll need to renew after our October trip. :)

Well, I went today.

I arrived at 10:15am. The guard was talking to people about how if they were paying with credit cards that they could go up to a different line.

People were asking if they filled out the application if they could go to a different line. His answer was no.

He told the lady in front of me it would be a 3 hour wait.

When I told him that I already sent mine by mail and it came back rejected because I sent the wrong i.d. in, he told me to follow him. So I did. He went in and came out with a ticket that said "E 011" on it. He told me to go into the closer waiting area, and watch for my number.

It came up in about 10 minutes! So from the time I got there to the time I was seeing an agent was only about 20 minutes total!

So....all was going well. BUT--then she told me I needed a long form Birth certificate for my daughter. Why? Because she was born before we were married. So I was kinda frustrated because when my forms came back rejected it didn't say that I would need that. So I was like ahhhhh! She told me to head over to Eaton/City center and go to Accusearch Registries, and I could get the B.C. back by today. Then she gave me another paper that said when I came back I would get another "E" ticket.

So I walked over and got the forms filled out for the b.c. It was 11:00am now. She told me they would be back at 2:30. So I walked around and shopped and ate.
At 2:00, I went back and sat there and waited, hoping they would come early. They came at 2:30 exactly!

So I ran back to Canada Place. Showed the guard my special E paper. He went in, got me my E ticket. I went into the holding area. Waited about 10 minutes. Got called, went up, and was out of there by 3:00!!

So it went well.

When I got there, (at 10:15) I saw a man I knew about 10 people ahead of me. When I went back at 2:40, he was at a clerk, so it would have taken him almost 5 hours.

It would have only taken me 1/2 hour total if it wouldn't have been for the birth certificate thing. :thumbsup2
They said it would be back May 29

Thanks for posting the update...hopefully by the time we go it'll be slower still. Just to be safe I think we'll both just book a day off work and consider the wait as practice for WDW

Sorry to hear the lines in Edmonton are still so long. The line at the Calgary South office has been not quite 2 hrs. for those with handwritten apps., those that have filed online can cut the wait in half.

I'd imagine that the lines will drop off now that the regional passport offices are open. I now only have to drive to Grande Prairie instead of Edmonton when I do my renewal. Even in Edmonton, there are 3 additional offices to go to instead of Canada Place.

Yes, but those are only Recieving Agents. They will take your passport, and put it in the mail for you. Then it will still take 10 weeks.

Taking it to the Passport Offices it will take 3 weeks.

So that is the difference.

Hi, I found this thread on Friday (may 4) while planning my trip to the passport office in Edmonton's Canada Place. Here is what I learned which may help you ... (NOTE: I am not an employee of the Federal Government, just a taxpayer who had to wait in line. What I have written below is based on my observations/recollections).

1. If you are travelling by air in the next 8 weeks - you will have to wait 2 lineups. The first lineup snakes out of the passport office and around the inside atrium. This is the prescreening lineup which takes around 2 hours. Once you have been prescreened (they check your application to make sure everything is completed) you will recieve a number ticket and you can sit down inside the passport office. There you will wait for an additional 1 to 2 hours. If you can't get past the prescreening (because of an incomplete application) you can get a special number so you can jump that first lineup when you come back later in the day or the next day. You will be able to pickup your passport in 5 weeks (i think) or you can pay a fee to get express service.

2. If you are travelling by air in greater than 8 weeks - Find the Commisionaire and tell him you want to get into the "DROP OFF" line-up. You will wait in what appears to be a much smaller line-up, but it will still take 2 hours. Your application is pre-screened and copies of all your documents will be made. All your documents (e.g. driver's license, birth certificates, passports, etc.) will be returned to you on the spot. Your passport will be ready for pickup in 8 weeks.

3. You aren't travelling by air soon, but need your primary Identification (e.g. birth certificate). See #2.

4. You aren't travelling by air soon and you are ok not having your primary identification - Mail your application in. ;) It will take 10 weeks, plus mailing time OR take your application to a Service Canada centre where they will prescreen, photocopy and return documents to you.

In my case, we are travelling to the US by car in Late June, but we need our Son's birth certificates for the land crossing, so we couldn't wait 10 weeks to have those documents returned. So, I did #2 and got into the DROP OFF lineup. it still took a long time, but I had a book.

Good Luck and happy trails,

C

Well, I applied May 1 at the Edmonton Office....

got my passports on Monday!!!!:thumbsup2

Except my daughters, who came Tuesday, even though we got it the same day, just 4 hours later!

Yay!!!:cool1:

Is the Edmonton Passport office open on weekends? All I can find say M-F.

Any update on the wait times there and for the passport to arrive?

Thanks!!

My friend went on wednesday.
She arrived at 10:00, and was out by 10:40.

She had online forms filled out.
They asked her if she was travelling before August 8. She said yes, so they told her to stay there and do it, not drop them off, or mail them.

She said she got right into the pre-screening area, then was sitting. She said she barely had time to sit down and her number was up!

She was told to expect them in about 3 weeks. Wow, sounds much better then a month ago when I was there and the waits were 5 hours!!

Thanks for the info.

I am heading down Friday morning...for travel July 22. Is it better to take the paper forms or fill it online? Thanks.

Anyone been here lately?
My parents are going there tomorrow, wondering what the lineups are like now...

We went June 8th. It was a Friday and apparently line-ups are longer on Fridays...

We got there at 7:30 and were 60th in line. By the time the doors opened at 8, the line-up was about twice as long.

Once the doors opened, the lineup moved rather quickly. I think we were out of there around 10 a.m.
