Editing video and photos are very different and usually require different software.

If you think that you will get serious about either, my personal recommendation would be Sony Vegas for video and Adobe Photoshop for pictures. They make consumer versions of each that are relatively inexpensive. If you get really serious, they also have professional versions of each. If you would rather have something less capable but much easier, these packages aren't really for you.

For digital images - I overlookied the video part of the OP, sorry!

IrfanView is what I prefer to use for quick viewing and editing. There is also GIMP which is free as well. These 2 programs may be a great way to determine what level of Post Editing you want to do as well as what tools you may need before you decide to purchase anything.

I never realized that IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.com) had image-editing features. Thanks for pointing that out.

Thanks Mark for the advice. I don't thing we will be getting too serious, just looking for somthing to edit holidays, birthdays etc so as to put something onto CD....might want to put some clips together and dub with some music.

I did find a "top ten" website that seemed to like Cyberlink and Ulead?

I got Photoshop from Ebay. I have not had much time to play with it yet. :guilty:
