I already posted a similar question some time back but now that I have done more research on it I would like to be more specific and get a fresh set of answers. I am a non member of DVC but am knowledgeable of how the basic rules of DVC works. We are looking to rent a total of 216 points for 3 seperate studio value rooms at AKV. The rooms can be located anywhere, it is my family going but we don't have to be or really want to be right next to each other. 1st room will be Me, DH and DD. 2nd room will be for my DS, DBIL and DN. 3rd room will be for my DMom, and my 2 DN's. We don't even care what view we have. We know we can see the animals anywhere. The days we need are Saturday September 13th to check in and check out Saturday
September 20th. That is 72 points per room and a total of 216 points. My problem is what are our chances of getting that if we don't even post we are renting until 5 or 6 months out? I know about the 11 and 7 month thing and that is why I am nervous. Do you think I have a good chance? I mean if it happens that would be great but I am not banking my whole vacation on it happening. I can deal with it either way. I would love some input on this. Thank you to all that can help me out. I really appreciate it. Please feel free to ask me anything in case I left anything out.

EDITED TO SAY:
I really appreciate all the help. I am editing this because my DH just found out that the week we want is definate. The person who had the few days taken preventing DH to take that whole week canceled and DH put in for it and was approved. So it is definate we are going. Now I will definately be posting about renting. I hope it all works out. Thank you all again so much for your help. I may be asking more tonight so bear with me. I hope I'm not being a pain but it is nerve racking to rent when you have never done it before. I sometimes think it sounds to good to be true and I get nervous.

It's hard to answer your question specifically because AKV is still so new and we don't have a lot of experience / reports to go on. So my thoughts are based on DVC as a whole and "board wisdom" on AKV, LOL.

September is one of the easier months to book - i.e., September fills slower than other months. I would expect this to be true for AKV also.

There aren't a lot of value rooms and they require less points than the other AKV categories. For that reason, they may book more quickly than the standard or savanna view category (more units and more points for those).

I think you have a chance of getting value units, but advise you to consider standard or savanna view units as a back up.

AKV is the new baby...many DVC members want to stay there. I feel once the 7-mo mark rolls around those value rooms will be gone. Plus there are a lot on non-members that specifically want to rent points for AKV as well.

I think that since you are going in September your chances are better, than say December. However, like others have suggested, being open to more than just the value rooms would make it even more likely you would be able to get what you want. Whatever rooms you end up with, I hope you enjoy your stay. AKV is a beautiful resort and a wonderful place to spend a week.

thank you all so much for your suggestions. Here's to a smooth rental transaction and a great vacation.
