I made my first reservation starting on Jan 29th-Feb 5th at BRV, but when I get to the 7-month window, I want to add & change a couple of days to AKL... can I change just a couple of days or will I need to change the whole reservation? (change 29, 30, and also add 28th to AKL) Assuming there will be availability. ;)

I think the best way to do that is make 2 reservations. Jan 28-31 and Jan 31-Feb 5. Then you can modify the first part at 7 months. You can’t modify just part of a reservation.

I agree - your best course of action is to split your reservation now into two, the dates you want to keep and the dates you hope to change. Then at 7 months you can simply modify the one segment without danger of losing the nights you don’t want to change.

Reports are mixed as to whether you should put different names as primary guests. There are reports of MS merging reservations into one before the 7 month window opens, but it seems to be happening less frequently in recent years as MS understands why owners book that way.

Yea i was afraid of that. Ill change it to make 2 separate reservations, maybe leave a day between them so they cant merge them? lol

They won't merge them together unless you call in and do it or you're checking in and see that you have a room immediately after your first reservation in the same room category as far as I'm aware.

I have never had a random merge, do it all the time, and the CM's at MS will tell you to do this for anyone who wants to do a split stay at 7 months. Some suggest just add a different name to one of them...which can't hurt..

I know there was a recent report of one, but I think there may have been a waitlist involved on the account, and maybe that was why? But, it is certainly a rare occurrence....

Technically I can't book the first (3-day) part of the trip because the 28th is already sold out (BRV), so it would only be 2 days that I would try to make into 3 days at AKL. Is it worth even to bother making a 2-day reservation, over just booking all 3 days at 7 months.? (I'm thinking a Savanna view studio will most likely be available right at 7mo)

I'd book the 2 nights at BRV now anyway, just to be sure that I had a place to stay those nights in case something happens and the Savanna view studio isn't available at 7 months. With all the issues lately with refurbs and whatever seeming to change availability patterns, I wouldn't want to take the chance!

I also say to book those two nights at BRV for now and cancel them off the other reservation. While you may find the room available, in order to modify what you have...unless you do have the extra points to just book those three nights outright...you have to drop the days, and then book...in those few minutes, the room could disappear for some of the nights you want.

It is much easier to just modify than cancel, and go back in.

Yep, I made a new res for the later 5 nights, & another for the first 2, & will just cross my fingers for all 3 at the 7-month mark... Honestly, I can find somewhere to stay at 7 months, it doesn't have to be AKL Savanna view, it's just option #1. ;)
My first time to WDW, and I'm just checking everything out anyway.
