Can someone tell me more about the Edge tween club on the Dream? Are there organized activities? Did your tween enjoy it?

My kids loved the Edge. They could come and go as they pleased. They do have activities in the navigator. Make sure they go the first night because they decide what they would like to do on the cruise for activities. Plus they do an ice breaker thing that helps introduce everyone.

Edge was a disappointment on our sailing. Seemed like a very young crowd for a mature 13year old. My 13year old did try to attend some of the activities listed in the Navigator that looked interesting but just wasn't well organized the few times my teen went. It was on the Dream and a short sailing so we were happy to spend time together as a family but Edge was not a highlight of the cruise.

Edge is a combination of organized activities, drop-in and a meeting place for other activities. On the Dream/Fantasy is heavily focused on gaming (as is for the most part the Magic and Wonder). A fair number of activities take place elsewhere on the ship (ie. Scavenger hunts and activities on the sports deck).

I think its a hit and miss. My 11 yr old didn't enjoy it too much a few weeks ago. She said that there were mostly older kids in there at times and they all hung together. There are lots of activities she said so she would go up there and do her own thing. Other times, she was with other 11 yr olds and she had a blast.

And therein lies the problem with "my 10 year is so mature I make sure he's allowed in the next age group" mentality.
I agree It truly felt like there were mostly 10 year olds in Edge and there is a big difference between just turned 10year old and a 13-14 year old.

DD has loved the edge on past trips. She was aged up at 10, and was there again as an older 11 year old. It is definitely not for every child that age though as they pretty much have run of the ship from there. There are organized activities and DD enjoyed those. They were encouraged to go in pairs, but were allowed to go wherever they wanted. DD often went up to cabanas, to the deck for ice cream, ect. She would leave the Edge at closing and meet us at the room.

Our son LOVED Edge (Fantasy). So much so, that we had to pry him out of there! He had independence, while maintaining his safety. He made lots of friends and even keeps in touch with a couple of them over a year later! On our next cruise, he is at the age where we can go between Edge and Vibe (teen club) and is so excited!

Just another example for us how our DS & DD are total opposites of each other. DS didn't enjoy Oceaneer's Club/Lab at all (we'd drop him off and then get a message he would like to picked up a little while later), but he loved Edge once old enough - and now loves Vibe even more than Edge. We hardly see him at all now as opposed to when he was younger and we couldn't get rid if him . On the other hand, DD loved Oceaneer's. She would want to be in there from open to close, if we let her. We literally had to drag her out of there at the end of each night. She's now "Edge age" and she barely goes...and when she does, she's usually back very quickly. It's such a difficult age for the staff to find the right balance of activities and create the proper environment (you still want them to keep things "PG", but then it's easy to make things too "young" for a lot of kids in that group).

Our older DS was Edge-aged for our last two Dream cruises, and he loved it. He was there all the time, and stayed every night until they kicked him out. He was 14 on our cruise this past summer, so he could go to both Edge and Vibe... Edge won, hands down. :) He's pretty disappointed that he'll be too old on our next cruise. He liked the organized activities on the first cruise better than on the second, but if there was something going on that didn't interest him he never had trouble finding someone to hang out with or something to do by himself. Younger DS was 12 and able to go to Oceaneer's and Edge last time around, but he spent most of his time in the Club/Lab.

My daughter liked it at 12 and 13. Said you have to go the first night for the ice breakers. Lots of video games for the boys. She wasn't too interested in that, but there were other activities for her.
