Edge question

I have two girls who are 13 months apart in age.. When we sail my older DS will be nearly 12 and my younger dd will be 1.5 months from 11. We will also be sailing with other families from our dance studio and most of the girls.. Maybe all are in the 11+ range..

My question is.. Will my younger DD be able to go into Edge? We are sailing sept 5-12, her 11th bday is November 18th.

I'd hate for her to be left out

It used to be that a child that was within 1 month of the age group for the next level could "age up" with parental permission. Or if they had a sibling already in the club. Recently, however, there seems to be some tightening up of the age levels in the clubs.

I'll just point out that 11 and 12 year olds can go to both Oceaneer's and Edge (they are in the 11-12 year old crossover age group).

The only thing you can do is ask the Edge counselors once onboard. But, be prepared if the answer is "no".

We sailed in October, and my daughter was 9 months from her 11th birthday, and while checking in at the port, we were told that she could visit the Edge if she wished. I was surprised! And there was no issue on board either, in fact, most people expected her to go there! She preferred the Lab, but I'll bet at our next cruise in Dec when she's around 11.5, she'll be more interested in the older scene.

We have our 1st Cruise booked for March with a DD13 and DS10 (11 in July) - they get along great and would probably like to do a lot of the same things together. DS10 is pretty mature and it sounds like he would like Edge as well as Oceaneers. (I even considered giving him the Age 11 on the registration!)

I was hoping others could post their experiences with "Aging" up or down!

The answer is... maybe. It may be possible for her to age-up, but that won't be determined until you are onboard. It will depend how many kids of the appropriate age (11-14) are on your cruise; if that group is full they will not allow anyone to age-up.

As PP pointed out, the overlap age of 11-12 is allowed open access to both the Club/Lab and Edge. So the older girls could join the 10-yr-old at the Club/Lab. And there are many activities around the ship open to all ages.

I'd prepare your girls to attend the Club/Lab if they wish to be together, then consider it a bonus if the younger is allowed to move up to Edge.

We just got off the Dream yesterday. My younger son just turned 10 last month. My older son is 11.5. They were both allowed in Edge, I just had to sign a waiver for the younger one and they both got stickers on their room keycards. Also, both were allowed in the Oceaneer Lab/Club. I feel like we hit the sweet spot with their ages as they were able to hop to all the clubs except Vibe depending on what activity appealed to them. The ship was full of kids with it being the long MLK weekend.

They let my 10 year old, almost 11 in February, into the Edge. . She only went for the open houses with her dad, but no one was worried about her age. I don't think it will be a problem at all.

As mentioned it will depend on the number of kids in the appropriate age group on your cruise. They have to save a spot for every kid 11-14 on that cruise whether those kids ever step foot in Edge or not. And Edge is a very small space.

It *can* happen, but it is much better to prepare the kids for a no, so that way they aren't dissapointed. If it happens, it will be a good thing, a bonus to the trip.

The 11 & 12 year olds can go to the Lab/Club with the 10 year old, and the 1- year old can go into Edge during Open House (at least once a day), but it is definitely better to prepare for a no.

As noted, it will depend on each cruise's numbers. We have been on cruises where it was fine and those where no one outside of the age range was permitted to move up.

There is no point in changing your child's age BTW, because they will verify the information with the BC/PP you provide when you check in at the terminal and it will be corrected at that point on the manifest if it is incorrect.

Regarding aging down, that is never permitted under any circumstances during secured programing times.
