Edge on the Dream And Other Questions - 1st Time D-Cruiser

Hi All!

Very happy to find this forum of enthusiastic Disney fans like myself.

We'll be taking our 1st Disney cruise on the Dream - 4 nights - this spring and I have some questions about Edge and whether or not our DD will enjoy it.

Our DD just turned 13 and she'll have to be in Edge due to her age, though based on the activities I've seen I think she'd prefer the Lab. She really likes video games, art (she's an excellent artist), character greetings and most of her friends are boys her age. I don't want her to spend her whole cruise playing video games.

We're WDW veterans (over 100 nights spent on property) and so we're used to that type of vacation. (Note that we've perfected the relaxing WDW vacation and don't try to spend all day in the parks or do every ride, etc. )

We're not planning to leave the ship except for CC since our port stop is Nassau, so I'm a little concerned that my DD might get bored or that I will get bored


Appreciate any feedback about Edge and ship activities.

I’m not sure how much help I’ll be but I have a DD who just turned 14. She’s been on 9 cruises in the last 7 years and she’s only gone to the kids clubs 2-3 times. It’s just not her thing.
2 years ago she spent a couple hours at the Edge because there was a Disney channel actress/dancer who was on board and gave a dance lesson. This January on our Dream BTB she didn’t go even once.
She loves just exploring the ship, doing the detective game, going to trivia, riding the aqua duck, watching a movie by the pool, eating ice cream, etc. I have never been concerned about her doing these things on her own. She feels very safe on the ship.
I’m not sure if that’s any help to you but there is a lot to do without having to go to the clubs. I know most kids love it so it totally depends on your daughter and what level of social interaction she is interested in.
The Edge looks like a great place to hang out and in my opinion there were lots of great activities going on but for my daughter she just wasn’t interested.

It's important for her to go the first night to the ice breaker. There they decide what they would like to do on the cruise. They give them options of things they could do and all vote. This group is out and about on the ship alot . Can come and go as much as they like. My dd does both goes what interests her and the rest of the time hangs out with us or usually makes a friend and hangs out with them.

My dd loved the scavenger hunts they have. They are given a list and go around the ship taking pictures of the things on that list.

4 nights goes by really fast. Don't miss the adult shows at night in one of the bars. They are great.
