Edge - A 12 Year Old Girl's Review

I agree with the majority of the posters above. The first time DD was old enough for EDGE she was so excited - particularly to learn choreo to Newsies as described in the Navigator. There were only 2 kids there and so they cancelled the activity. Most kids kept to themselves there. I will say on our Alaska cruise it was a much more active group in the EDGE - so I do think it is cruise/group of kids dependent. My girls have ended up making friends more at the activities they enjoy (trivia, karaoke, and then hanging with those kids). I've also noticed that if your cruise group has a chat for kids ahead of time for them to meet each other - it will help the kids who do make friends through the chat, but likely further leave out the kids who show up not knowing anyone. As previously stated - these are hard years.

Yep, this is how my granddaughters describe it too. They usually pop in and try to get a feel for the clubs, but it’s rare now that they even bother. My grand girls have been cruising with us since they were 3 and 5. They are 15 and 13 now. The 15 yo generally lounges on deck 12 by herself now or with mom. The 13 year old usually finds a quiet spot to hang out. Occasionally she’ll make a friend to run around with.

We have had all sorts of Edge experiences. My daughter and her male cousin have been on the same Disney cruises the past two years. The first time they could go to Edge on the Dream, it was too new to them and the 3-12 clubs were so fun and comfortable for them they didn't really go to Edge at all.

This past summer on the Wonder, they were both age 12 and decided to give Edge another shot. Over the week they began hanging out there daily. I had to drag them out at midnight the last night. Their only complaint, they turned off the video games and forced them to do the group activities (since it is a small area).

Six months later on the Fantasy, Edge was their priority from the start. We were there right after the boarding lunch getting stickers for the cards and checking out the week's activities. They loved the optional scavenger hunts and karaoke activities. At the end of the trip they created a group chat on their phones with their new friends.

It helps if you know one other person there a lot. I would say if your child is shy, go into Edge with them during open hours to see if you can help break the ice. Once they meet counselors and a few others kids, it is a whole lot more fun.

My 12 to son didn't like Edge either (on Wonder). Alot if it had to do with the room. It was so tiny and crammed. The last straw was when they tried to play Gaga jammed into a little corner of the room. I assumed they would have moved a game like that to the basketball courts.

My kids never Had that experience in the Edge. I would not let one group of kids deter anyone. As someone that’s been.on over 25 cruises I will say every cruise is different. This holds true for the adult activities. Some cruises are more fun then others. It’s just the way it is.
