Eddie Bauer Sportdome tent...

DH & I got an Eddie Bauer sportdome tent for our wedding 2 years ago, but this trip will be our first time using it. I just sealed the seams & found somethings I wanted more info on. Anyways...what if found in place of the info I wanted was a bunch of bad reviews!!! Now I don't know what to do. Try it out and hope it doesn't leak, like the reviews say? Get another tent? Anyone know anything about this tent? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I'd say try it first. You said you seam sealed it and if you put a couple of coats of Camp Dry, Scotchguard, or a generic spray-on fabric protectant, you will have a better chance of staying dry. I wouldn't go by the reviews too much. I remember getting a few bad reviews about our Coleman (it's retired now) but it lasted us for years and stayed the driest of all our tents. I think it's all about how you treat it and maintain it.

Put it up in the yard when you're expecting rain and see what happens. If you don't want to wait for rain, turn on the sprinklers.

I just did the same thing (basicaly) I purchased this tent and later read some bad reviews. I went ahead and did the seam and sprayed water repellant all over it... and the first 2 days at FW it rained and my tent leaked pretty bad. We ended up sleeping in my parents RV fo 2 night. Then my sister said why don't we use one of the tarps that we have under the tent. We had 2 but one was all we needed so we stuck the tarp in between the rain fly and the tent. Then of course it never rained again. This rain fly had little holes like pin size. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the tent. Can you purchase seperate rain flys? I would bring an extra tarp just incase. The tarp seemed to make the tent hot.

Tarps are good for making it cold... when you bring the AC along.

It's definatly try it and see. I have a target greatland tent that I've been using for four years. haven't had a problem yet. But I think it's only rained maybe twice using it.

Ok, the seams are said like I said previously & DH put Outdoors Scotchguard on it yesterday. It's suppossed to rain today or tomorrow, so my fingers are crossed One more question...when we put the rain fly on it didn't seem to completely cover the footprint of the tent. How much does that matter, if at all?

I bought a really cheapo tent last year on the web and I had the same concerens, but it works pretty well. You've done everything you can -- use it and make sure your stuff is in waterproof bags.

There ain't no such thing as a waterproof tent no matter what anyone says. Water resistant is the best you can get. Good luck.

The rain fly may not cover the whole tent. On our tent the rain fly only cover about 6 inches past the open vent area. We also hang a tarp over the tent to keep the heat and rain out.
