My Mom needs a ECV when we visit Disney and has had some more medical issues since we last went. On the usual off-site ECV rentals, I saw ECV's with canopies on them. This would be helpful for her since the sun is an issue. I know it won't block much, but every little bit helps. My question is wether or not the canopy fits onto the buses or does it have to come off first. What about through doorways?? I'm hopeing someone has some experience with them. Thanks.

I have never used a canopy on my ECV, but I think that it would be more of a bother than it is worth.

It may need to be collapsed to get it on and off a bus. In a special viewing area it will block the view of people behind.

And well over half the time the way the ECV is facing it will really not block the sun. If sun protection is needed what could be done is bring an umbrella/parasol with a clamp in it to hold it to part of the ECV.

Another thing to consider is the limiting visability. I know I have a slightly harder time keeping track of everything around me just by wearing a baseball cap. I'd hate to try to watch out for other people in crowds when I can't see above my head.

I was thinking abou tthis abit more...I bet the reduced visability she has might be made up for by the increased visibility that others have towards her. It's kind of hard to miss a "surry with the fringe on top" coming at you. :)

I have seen people using them and although it sounds like a good idea, it didn't look to me like it would block the sun that much. They also looked like it caused some difficulty when backing up and also with being able to talk with the people who were walking with them.
If you do rent one with a canopy, I would make sure I knew how to take it off/collapse it so that you can get rid of it if it's more trouble than help.

We rented two ecv's from an offsite rental company, and had a horrible experience with ours. Scooterama, to be precise. We were delivered 2 that were not charged correctly, and when we called, and finally got through, we were told to just plug them in overnight. We were also told we must have done something to them.... and would be charged if they had to bring another 2 out to us.... after many calls, and sitting around half the morning, we decided to leave them in our cabin driveways for them to change out, and then rent ecv's inside the parks. We came back to find nasty notes, and threats that we could pay damage for not keeping them inside.
The second day one of the ecv's still did not work... they still never changed them out... or fixed them, we called again... this time we said get another one here or take them back. This time they brought one, and it died a half hour later... we had to have our grandaughter and kids... push it back to the boat and back to our cabin. Oh, they said... when we called again, just charge it overnight. Never again will I rent from this place. I had to pay over $500.oo for the week and never got any use from them . No refunds either. All our calls to them were always voice mail... it's hard to get a person in that company. I would definatley warn everyone away from them.

I have MS and Sun alergy among other things and I ALWAYS use my canopy at Disney and I do have a fringe on mine in fact LOL.
It does not block visability as it has mesh "windows" it does increase your visibility to others. and it is not hard to put on or take off.
Walker mobility rents scooters with the canopy option.pirate:

The scooter I got from Randys had a sun shade and for me it was a life saver. Yes people are forced to notice you are there and while it did not block all the sun it gave me a small bit of shade and protection from some of the more myst type rains. We did not have to take the shade off to ride the bus or any doorways. most attractions where I could drive in we just parked in the back so we did not block views or asked CM where we should park. Cms thought the sunshade was a great thing and never once complained.

I think we paid $15 bucks to rent the shade for the week

Hope this helps

I don't know that you would have to remove the canopy for a bus but I think I would do so with mine. Not a big deal.
