We are staying at CBR Nov. 1-4, 2008. The resort has no elevators.

DH made the reservations and didn't tell them we would have an ECV.

What do we do if we end up in a 2nd floor room. It's a rental vehicle and I do not want to leave it under stairs or whatever since I'm responsible for replacement if it's broken or stolen.

Should I call someone and make sure that we have a 1st floor room or do we just wait until we check in to ask? Please give me a number or what I may need to take care of this. TIA! :grouphug:

Also, for those of you who have been at CBR, which is the first bus pick up location so I can be sure to get on the bus first.

I know there are several bus stops and I don't want to be waiting anywhere else then the first bus stop- I've heard too many "the bus is to full for your chair/scooter, you have to wait for the next bus" comments at the spread out resorts like CBR.

I would call back ASAP & have added to the reservation the first floor room request, since you are traveling w/ an ECV it would be a request for *medical reasons.* Medical requests (like for first floor rooms) are generally filled before room preference requests like view or room location, so while not strictly guaranteed, you do have an excellect chance of getting your first floor room, as long as they know you want/need one. :thumbsup2

I'm also not sure that there are no elevators, I've never stayed at CBR, only POFQ & there at least there were elevators, just not especially convenient.

CBR definitely does not have elevators, you are correct. Don't panic, just let CRO know, consider making the request through "special" reservations, I think their number might be on one of the stickies; if not, let me know, I have it somewhere... Anyway, as the pp said, let them know it's for medical reasons. It won't be a problem-rooms aren't assigned until right before you get there anyway, so it doesn't matter that it wasn't originally noted.:) I'm glad you'll have an ECV- I love CBR, but it's HUGE.

Correct, CBR has no elevators. However, let them put a note on the ressie that you will be using an ECV and therefor on medical reasons need a room on first floor. Got any nerves? Let special reservations deal with it!

Which busstop is the first depends on where the bus is going, as not all of the busses start at the same busstop (they enter and leave CBR at different points). I believe Jamaica is one of the first for multiple busses, but don't remember for sure. Just look on the CBR-FAQ thread, they'll have the info on there.

No need to NEED to be at the first busstop though. Last september I stayed at CBR for 8 days (use a powerchair). I stayed at Trinidad-North, although most of the times I used the busstop at OPR. It never was first, most of the times on of the later busstops. I was on the bus quite a number of times as I would go back to the room to rest 2 a day between all of the fun. Never once I had to wait for a second bus to any park. Most of the time I was the first 'set of wheels' onto the bus and enough times the only one. I had to wait for a second bus once when going from MK back to CBR. It started pouring like crazy, so everybody wanted to get back. There were 2 others in front of me. However, while they were loaded onto the bus a second bus allready came around so in a way I didn't even have to wait then.

Maybe it's me, but with a set of wheels I don't consider CBR to be THAT big. It's easy to get around and eventhough I was at about the opposite site, even the check in building was a quick drive away. If you do run into any bus-loading problems, it's very easy to drive upto the first busstop of the park you're planning to visit instead of the one in your village.

I'm going back to CBR for 14 days in december and the busstops are totally not on my mind. Remember; CBR scares a lot of people. No elevators, spread out, internal bus. That's scary enough for most to decide not to stay at CBR. There also are very little accessible rooms at CBR compaired to the other mods, so that also reduces the number of those possibly needing a wc-spot on the bus.

And to be honest? Besides of the poor choice of tiles at OPR, I totally do not understand that decision when one has their own set of wheels. It's a great resort and for me those downsides for others are perks. Less of those with wheelchairs -> gets me a spot on the bus more easily. ;)

Make sure to tell them that you need first floor for medical reasons; don't just say that you have an ECV, they need to put it in as a medical request so that the 'has ECV' doesn't get overlooked.
While it is not guaranteed, it's as close to guaranteed as possible because most people don't request a floor at all. And, some who do, request 2nd floor.
Also, keep in mind that the resort has only 2 floors. 1/2 of all the rooms are on the first floor, so even with no request, you have a 50:50 chance of getting a first floor room. I would also suggest verifying when as you are checking in that the room assigned to you is on the first floor - if it isn't, they should be able to assign you a different one at that time.

In the past, the Special Reservations department has not gotten involved in requests for first floor unless the guest also had other needs. So, if you do call that number, chances are very good that they will advise you just to add it as a medical request.
