ECV Rental Question

Hi, all,

My SIL will be joining us for two of our three days in the parks in June. She has a bad knee (waiting for replacement surgery), and while she can walk on it, there is no way she could do the parks without a wheelchair or ECV.

If we decide to rent a wheelchair from Disney, my understanding is that we can take it to both parks and even DTD and our hotel (GCH)? Can we rent one the first day for both days and just keep it?

If we decide to go the ECV route, can those go between parks? I don't think so, but I thought I would ask. If not, if we rent one in DL in the morning and want to go to DCA in the afternoon, would we have to pay again in DCA?

How about outside medical supply rental companies? I understand they deliver directly to hotels for your use during your entire stay. What do you do with it overnight? Park in the hall to charge? We would not have an accessible room.

Any other tips?

The ECVs can go between parks. I was there last month with my mom who needs one and we had no problem park hopping

No, you need to rent an ECV off-site to keep it both days and take it to/from the hotel and DTD. The off-site ECV's are better quality, in better shape, and cheaper. And an ECV will give your SIL more independence than in a wheel chair, and the pusher isn't totally worn out. Disneyland isn't as flat as you'd think.

If you rent an ECV from Disneyland in the morning you won't have to pay again in the afternoon (just keep the receipt), but Disneyland does run out of them. Another reason to rent off-site.

Some of the rooms at the GCH are big enough for an ECV. You do need to plug in the charger over night. Also, keep the charger in the pouch of the ECV in the parks, so if you feel the battery is getting sluggish, just plug it in an outlet outside a restaurant. The cast members are very helpful telling you where to do that. Of course you keep the key with you so someone won't just drive off with your ECV.

We rent two ECV's and they both won't fit in our room at the GCH so we just park them at the end of the hall and recharge there.

I recommend renting offsite! The disney ecv's can only go between the two parks, not into DTD or your hotel.

I always use Deckert's Medical (714-542-5607). They have great customer service on the phone and their prices are great. They deliver and pick up the ecv at your hotel!
