We'll be going to WDW this November, and the grandparents have decided to join my family for the trip. None of them use a mobility device, but because of all the walking we talked about renting ECVs for them while in the park. We don't want to use an outside vendor because they don't need them all the time and we want to avoid the hassle and extra time involved in transporting them to and from the park. But, I have read that because of the limited availability of in-park rentals, they're usually gone by mid-morning. They aren't early risers by any means. My family plans to be at rope drop most days. TLDR - Can I rent an ECV when I get to the park first thing in the morning and leave it there, and just hand over the keys to the grandparents when they join us later in the day?

You'll have to go park it someplace else, because they will expect you to get it out of the way at the rental area. Then you'll have to 'dig it out' of the area you parked it in (stroller parking, or somesuch) because it will get put way in the back if left for a long time. Or they may reclaim it if it is sitting in one place too long, I'm guessing.

I would ask at Disney scooter rental if you can pay and hold the scooter there until your grandparents arrive. It's hard to say if this will work or not. I haven't heard one way or the other on this.

Another option is for two in your party to use the scooters until they come. You can park it for rides and such, but you can certainly use it until they come. This will absolutely work, but you will have to meet up with the grandparents when they arrive at the parks.
