Hi,

We know we will need to rent an ECV but not yet sure what date we will want to collect it. I have made intial enquiries re availabilty and that is ok. My question is I will phone the company the day before I want to go and get it so that I can confirm that they still have one (and I haev other companies details also) but what phone number do I use. For example for Randy's the number quoted is 407-892-4777 but here in England if it is a local call you don't dial the first part of the number just the last six digits. Is it the same in US or do I dial the whole number?

I'm sorry if this question seems silly to those of you who live in US or who travel often but I have only been to US once before and didn;t make any phone calls.

Thanks

I'm sure I would have just as much trouble with dialing up a number in the UK!
The first 3 numbers are the area code - 407 in Randy's number. Some areas have only one area code; some have a lot - like in the Minneapolis area where I live, we actually have 3 area codes (we're a little phone mad). My home is in one area code, my work is in another and my DH's is in another!

If the phone number you are at is in the same area code, then you only have to dial 892-4777. If you are staying at one of the WDW resorts, then you will be in the 407 area code. You will be able to tell by looking at your telephone. It will have the number posted on it. Often the area code is in () like this (407) 892-4777. There should be instructions by the phone to tell you how to get an "outside line". Usually, you dial 9 and then the number you want. If you don't dial 9 first, you are often going to be only able to reach phones inside the hotel system.

The other thing - you mentioned picking up your ecv. Were you aware that Randy's will deliver to most hotels? You do need to be there when it is delivered, but it would save you trying to find an address in an un-familiar area.

Thanks Sue, I knew they would deliver but we will be in an off site villa somewhere off the I4 (i'm hoping my DH will be able to follow the directions we've been given to find it on arrival) and I thought it may be easier to go to them than to have to try and be in at a specific time to meet them. I guess I'll see what they say when I phone. I have the phone number of the villa and it starts 863 so I will obviously have to dial all the numbers to get through. Here in the Uk a 'local' code actually covers a very large area but it's the differences that make it fun.

Yes, if the area code for the villa is 863, you will need to dial all the numbers. You might also want to make sure that it isn't a long distance number from where you are (possibly called "Toll number" in the UK??). I know we needed to call an Orlando number one year when we were at WDW and even though it was close by, it was not part of the local dialing area.

Some parts of the US have one area code for a rather large area, others don't. Here in the Minneapolis, Minnesota (a small part of the state of Minnesota) we have 3 area codes, but the whole rest of the state of Minnesota has only 3 area codes.

I believe that 407 area code is ten digit dialing. You will need to use the entire number.

Thanks Lisa,

the number I have is 10 digits so I will use all of them.

Just returned from a stay at VWL and used Randy's Mobility to rent a ECV. They were fantastic. The scooter I received was new out of the box. It was perfect for our trip. Any questions, please ask.
