Economy or compact car?

I have 2 separate reservations for a car rental at the end of the month.

There will be 2 adults and (1) 7yr. old. Maybe 1 large bag. 1 small bag, and 1 carry on.

Is there a big size difference between a Dodge Neon type car and a Kia Rio? Haven't rented anything less than an intermediate before.

I just asked my husband, who used to own a Neon, and he thinks it will be tight in the Rio (we got one as a rental once). He thinks you'd probably end up putting one bag in the back seat.
On the plus side, only once have we actually gotten an economy when we've rented one...we're almost always upgraded to compact.

We too have never rented anything smaller than an intermediate. I saw a Dodge Neon on the road today and thought that it would work for our family of 4. We have 2 adults and two kids ages 4 and 3.

We will be in Orlando next week, I just got a great rate at Dollar for a compact (Dodge Neon) for $114.95 base rate. I used the discount code VFGET when reserving online.

Please, let me know how the car worked for you.

I used the same code with Dollar in Tampa.

I used AU02 with Thrifty and got a base rate of $79 for an economy car.

After taxes the difference is $40 or so.

We only are using it for driving back and forth to the Tampa Airport and a grocery stop.

I need to decide which car to cancel or if I need to reserve a BIGGER car.

My DH and I are both tall and we always rent a compact with no problem, we could even add kids if we wanted. But the economy is way too small.
