Hi all,

We have been to disneyworld a number of times but never to disneyland. Can you all recommend an economy hotel within walking distance to the parks? I would really appreciate all your help. TIA :)

The least expensive places we/I have stayed at were, the Castle Inn,and the Alpine Inn. Castle Inn is 'kinda' across the street, while the Alpine is south of the park. (no major streets to cross)
We/I considered both 'economy'.

yep, it depends what you consider economy, and what your definition of walking distance is.
Last time we stayed overnight, we stayed at La Quinta, which we considered walking distance, though many online reviewers did not. (about 10-15 min walk) It was under $89, for the kids suite.

Another good, inexpensive hotel that's within walking distance is the Anaheim Plaza Hotel. ( http://www.anaheimplazahotel.com ) Usually the rooms run from $49 to $89 a night. The hotel isn't anything fancy, but the rooms are quite large & most have both a refrigerator and microwave.

I looked at this hotel but it charges a $4 a day parking fee, has no Hot Tub and no WiFi....it looks good but with most area hotels offering these things for near the same price or better I couldn't see staying here... we were lucky and got HoJo's for the ET rate for our Aug. vacation although they have no breakfast we love the hotel and pool, hot tub and the walk is not bad!!! i also found the Days Inn & Suites at 1111 S harbor on cheaptickets.com for around $67 a nite with a free shuttle and cont. breaky and free wifi... I'm still wavering on this hotel and HoJo's but I have never stayed at Days Inn and I have at HoJo's....
Good Luck and have a great trip!!!!!

I agree w/ both points.

Hmmm...I stayed here (Anaheim Plaza) a long time ago in '97 and they had a hot tub at that time. I wonder if they got rid of it and why? They don't show it on their website.
I saw that Days Inn post, and it looks like a really good value too! My only concern is that it looks like/appears to be a 2 story walk-up/drive-up motel. That's a little scary at night...unless they have good security.

OP, I highly recommend Hojos or Fairfield Inn. Both are quality hotels and very economical in my opinion.
This page has my review w/ pictures of FFI

and this page has my review of the DL facing, premium, 2Q rooms at Hojo. $79 Ent rate -- if you can get it. Note that they no longer have the desk because they have a table for 2 in the rooms now. Great for young families who eat in the room, but we prefer the desk because now you have to sit on the bed to access the internet.

You can't go wrong with either. Hojos has some Entertainment book rates available sometimes; not all the time. So I would go for whichever one is the cheapest. And be sure to compare apples to apples. Don't compare a room w/ 2 Double beds to a room w/ 2 Queenbeds when pricing things out. There is a big difference. Hojos is about 500 feet further than Hojos to the closest rooms -- and that makes a big difference at the end of the night. FFI has Pizza Hut, Seattle's Best, Millie's and room service from Millie's available; also Free Wifi. You can see more in my reviews. Hojos has Mimi's nearby that you can get takeout from and free wired internet access.

The hot tub at the Anaheim Plaza was alive & well last time I was there (in January). I didn't think to factor in parking as I've never brought a car there.

It's about a 10 minute walk to the Park from the Anaheim Plaza.

There's also the Super 8 on Katella. It is right next to the GardenWalk so it's within walking distance but not the closest hotel. We were there for 2 days and the walk was fine. If I was going to be at DLR for 4+ days I think I would get tired of the walk. We stayed there over spring break for $50/night. It has free parking and a free breakfast.

We're going to be staying at Desert Inn and Suites when we go in september. We made our reservations a few months ago and got the room for something like $69/night. And it's just about as close as you can get. My impression is that it's a no frills place, which is fine for us since it's basically just going to be used for sleeping. But it was the best combination of cheap and close to the park that I could find.

Is the Castle Inn a longer walk to the entrance? The lady at the front desk said it was about a 7 minute walk to the pedestrian entrance. We booked there and are hoping it isn't too far.

The Castle Inn is about the same distance as HoJo's but it wasnt that good of a place and thier pool area is terrible!! for a place to just sleep is would be acceptable but for the same money you could get a way better property!

What about the Best Western Anaheim Inn? Is it better? This is a last minute quick trip for July 29th and we need two rooms. That is about all that I could find within our price range.

Why does everyone always ask for walking distance...no one takes the Anaheim Transit :confused3

I'm trying to find something for next year for under $100/night, decent, with wi-fi if possible. Only use the room mainly to sleep and shower. Anyone know how to get season rate info about the off-site hotels so we know when it might be cheaper to stay?

For our family of 5, ART isn't really cost effective. Plus, I'm not one for standing in line. On a busy night, I'll walk back to Mickey & Friends rathe than wait for a few trams to cycle through.
A great way to speculate off seson rates is Portofino's calendar. You can really see when the prices drop.
