I was looking and there are beautiful wedding dresses on ebay but its really scary getting a dress that you're not sure might ever get to you. any comments? :flower:

Look at their feedback rating. I sold my dress on ebay. The person got it! In fact, they also got an excellent deal!! It was the moulin rouge by Maggie. I think as long as it is a dress that you have tried on, then you will be ok (if their feedback is good).

I bought my dress from a stored on e-bay called justthedress.

I was a little leary at first, so I contacted them, and found out who made the dress. When I contacted the company who was based in England, they told me he was reputable, and that I was better off buying from him, as he was cheaper for me. I went ahead and ordered the dress, and I love it! I know that there are dishonest people out there, but I'm sure for the most part people are honest. I'm hoping to sell a dress of mine from a previous engament that didn't work out on e-bay and I hope the experience goes well.

I bought my gown from Heiphy on eBay. I got a fabulous deal! The dress came to me from Hong Kong in three days! Look for a high feedback score. Heiphy had a 100% score with thousands of transactions. You don't get that kind of score with those numbers unless you have a great product and great customer service! I got my gown for $95 plus $44 shipping. The same gown over here is about $500. Yikes! The train and the beading are gorgeous! I even got an envelope of extra beads.
They will post the measurements of the gown for sale. Go by the measurements. Bridal gowns have to be fitted, anyway, so make sure you get the size that fits your largest measurement. The rest can be taken in by your seamstress at your fitting. My gown fits perfectly as is, I don't even need to hem it, but I'm hoping to have to take it in 2 inches by the big day!
Also, look for the symbol that shows that they are backed by PayPal, which will provide a sort of insurance. Then pay with PayPal. I once bought a stroller that I never got (I should have listened to my gut, the feedback score wasn't great,) and I got my money back on the transaction from eBay. This person wasn't "insured" with PayPal, but eBay has a guarantee, as well, check to be sure what the limit is.

I LOVE IT! The service was excellent! The price was amazing! It was a wonderful experience! I can look up the name of the seller if you want. She has a lot of dresses for sale on EBay and she was really really great!

That's Funny! I just got my dress off Ebay and I LOOOOOVE it!!! I got an $1100 dress for $145 with shipping and that included the veil. I still have to get some alterations, but I would have to do that if I got it at a bridal shop. If you find one you really like, Go for it! Just check the feedback first and ask any questions before you bid

I've always though highly of ebay...I buy so many things off of it. Right now though I'm dealing with a seller who, well, doesn't really send you the item even though you paid for it. :sad2: It was only a $6 item, but still. Even though you check the feedback score be sure to read all negative and neutral feedback comments. The guy I'm dealing with has a 97% in feedback which I thought was still a good score, but when I read his comments all of the negatives said they never got the product. Also you should email the seller first to make sure they're a good communicator. I wrote so many times to this guy and he won't write back. I hope everything works out for you if you buy your dress of ebay. :flower:

Ebay is a great place to buy things, even a wedding dress. I've looked, but haven't found exactly what I want, but would be willing to do so if I found the right one.

However, here's a suggestion....Right now all of my local (in Baton Rouge) bridal shops I've visited are having big 1/2 sales, closeouts, etc. They have told me that this is one time of year they clear out. Most summer brides already have their dresses on order so they want to get rid of current inventory.

Maybe in your area the same thing is occuring. Today I went to a shop and they carry Maggie Sottero, Demetrios, Justin Alexander, etc. and most of the previous year and some 2005 dresses were all 1/2 off or more. As well as a vow renewal at WDW in December (haven't picked this dress yet), we are having a 10th anniversary party on our actual wedding date for all of our family and friends since most cannot make it to the renewal. I bought a Maggie Sottero Couture gown that normally costs over $1300 for $300 today for that event. It's in perfect shape and I only have to pay for cleaning.

Maybe you will get lucky and find something locally and won't even have to pay shipping charges.

Also, I plan on selling the dress on ebay when I'm finished.

Good Luck! Lisa

JonetteA, hope you are familiar with the Baton Rouge area, but if not I'll email the addresses of these shops.

I went to D'Lei's which is on Jefferson Highway near Parkview Baptist School. They had quite a number of dresses such as most of their Maggie Sottero, Demetrios and Moonlight 1/2 off. Only drawback is that the 1/2 price dresses are the ones right off the floor (this is the same with all the bridal shops). You have to deal with the sizes they have available. I'm a little large, so I didn't have as much choices as others. However, the dress I purchased today was one size smaller than I would wear. I'm not worried about losing that weight though. Plus since I have the dress at home with me, it is super incentive to lose it!

D'Lei's also carries the Alfred Angelo dresses which are somewhat less expensive than others lines. Many are very attractive and I'm eyeing one for my Vow Renewal. Got to lose another 10 pounds though to try it on and make sure.

Gabrielle's Bridal Shop in the Drusilla Shopping center next to Drusilla seafood has a backroom filled with very, very inexpensive dresses (as of last Saturday). Most were under $350. They are getting rid of their Maggie Sottero line because of problems with the company so they have a lot of those. They also carry Justin Alexander, Sincerity, and LaSposa, as well as several other lines. I'm eyeing one of those too.

Bridal Boutique (across from Cortana Mall on Florida) has lots of sale dresses and probably carries the most lines. Just about all of them. They had a good selection, but I just couldn't make a decision.

Pearl's Place in Metairie also has tons of dresses including lots of sale dresses and is a good resource too if you can make it there.

It is very difficult to pick THE ONE dress for the ceremony. I loved a number of sales dresses, but just am not sure yet. However, the dress for my anniversary party was a great deal and I'm very pleased with it.

Good Luck and let me know if you need specific directions or more info.

I am going to be visiting my grandmother on memorial day, so I thought I may try and do a little shopping on Sat if I can. I hesitate to buy a dress, until I find out if my mom's can be altered. Am I crazy to want to try and wear my mom's dress?

I don't think you are crazy to wear your mom's dress, if you like it. My two aunts were wanting me to wear their dresses... :rotfl2: I don't think so. One aunt got married in the 70's and was very thin, the other aunt got married in the 80's when lace was popular. I'm not into lace so it wasn't what I would choose. But if you like your mom's dress, I say GO FOR IT!!!
